| What is a good external battery for a GoPro Cam? I see Mike Keyes has some kind of battery pack hooked up to his on his show.
I've tried the oversize battery that GoPro sells, but I don't get as much life out of that as I would like.

Location: MN | Don't know if he's still using it, but Mike and Greg Thomas are the ones who turned me on to using a Pocket Juice. Using that allows me to record all day on less than one charge. What it does is charges the GoPro battery, which allows you to turn off the pocket juice and now you're running on the GoPro battery for an hour and a half, and just keep alternating. When I have the camera on my head I just plug a 6' cord from the camera and down my back and into the juice in my pocket. |

Location: Tennessee | Glad someone started this thread, I had been wondering the same for one of my gopro HDs that have the built in battery. Given the pocket juice are about a quarter the price of the one Steve posted I wonder if they work as good. Seen mix reviews on the pocket juice |

Location: MN | I think you are referring to the smaller pocket juice they now offer. I've not tried that one but I know the bigger/original one, which cost about $15 and that is about 3.5" long by 1.75" wide will last me all day (12-15 hrs of off-on filming). Looks like the more charging capacity/higher mAh the higher the cost. |

| I think it should be noted that if u mount the camera on your head with the strap and waterproof case these extra chargers are not feasible since the case is enclosed and no way to plug anything into it |

Not true. I simply used a dremel tool to cut an opening in the housing in which to plug in the cord to the charger |

Location: WI | I use an Anker brand power source. It's a little bigger than an iphone. Can get a couple days worth of fishing out of it. Also works for charging the phone when I'm backpacking out west. Around $30-40. |

I drilled a hole first with regular drill bit, then used one of the slightly tapered abrasive bits to enlarge, shape, and smooth the hole. I also glued some foam rubber around the hole to create a tight fit with the cord to help minimize moisture entry, though it is now no longer completely waterproof. I don't film in a downpour so not too worried about it. |

| My point was u can't use the charger without modifying the waterproof case. I can see issues early morning with condensation etc building up pretty easily unless u can seal the drilled hole up pretty solid.
Good idea though with the drilling / mod of the case
I film in 1080 60fps and have enough batteries to swap for a full 9 hours. I change every hour or so, normally a pain but on long days on the water it is nice to take a break and just swap out for a min |

Location: Hayward, WI | I might have to look into some of these options. I'd just buy a second case. If it's raining out, use a regular battery and the waterproof case. If dry, use the modified one.
I charge batteries in the boat, and swap and charge to keep me going all day, but I don't always stop fishing the moment a battery runs out. My battery died just minutes before I caught the biggest fish of my life on LOTW in the 8. Was in a spot where I didn't want to stop to change batteries out. If I had, I would have likely missed out on catching that fish.
Constant filming might be a neat option. |

| I really enjoy the wasabi battery. I bought two and they come with the waterproof backdoors. They get 5-6 hours per battery per charge. Two batteries last me all day.

I'm not sure if this is what you are asking but as I stated previously I cut out a hole in the housing, plug in a 6' usb cord, run the cord down my back and into the charger. The charger then goes in my pocket.

| I have been looking into this as well, I currently have a SJ4000 WIFI, which is pretty close to a go-pro. I ran into this the other day on Amazon and it looks to be the cure all for my problem. I will just use this case and run a USB cord to an external battery for all day power. | Im not 100% sure yet, like I said I have the SJ4000, and this case is specific for that model. I don't have access to a go-pro, but I would imagine there are some pics online that will show them side by side. I am going to be buying this and an external battery in the next day or so so I can update when I get it. |

| Right... But it's not for a GoPro. The front button is near the top on that one, and the GoPro is towards the bottom for one noticeable thing. |

| Check out the new DigiPower Refuels for gopro there avaliable in 6,12, and 24 hrs and are water proof up to 130 ft and the price points are vary resonable considering how much the gopro bacpac costs |
