Posts: 410 Location: With my son on the water | Well I have the new ride and have a few hours on it. Let me tell you this took 2 years. I am 55 year old and this was my retirement present. If I was buying a new boat it had to be better than what I had. I have always run Lunds and they were great boats but after reading the discussion about glass I made the switch. I primarily cast for muskie so I needed a boat more set up for casting but I also had several important criteria. I spend 5 weeks on LOTW each year. 1. Needed to be a true vee hull. 2. Needed to be able to lock up 8'6" rods. 3. Needed to have a large enough cockpit for a muskie net in the ready position 4. Needed to have a large gas tank. 5. Needed to be able to store at least 3 x 8'6" rods on a shelf on the port side. 6. Needed to be single axle so I can move it by myself. 7. I didn't want a 96" wide boat because of garage space. 8. Needed to have ample lockable storage. 9. Able to put a kicker motor on each side without a bunch of work. The Tuffy 1760 GC esox is the only boat I could find that did this, and I looked at all of them. I bought the boat from MD Services 1-262-206-3045. Mike is a great guy and easy to work with. Between Mike and Steve Worrall they made sure everything is perfect. We did some nice customization. 1. Added 2 more rod tubes so I have 12 that lock. 2. Move the gas fill so I can lay 9 ft rods on the port shelf. 3. Didn't install any cleats that the net will get caught in. (This already saved one net job for my son this week). 4. I added a divider between the port shelf and the passenger seat. I put the net next to the seat and the divider prevents the bait attached to the stowed rods from getting tangle in the net. Comparing this boat to my Lunds is night and day. Like a Tank versus a Corvette. This is the first boat I have ever had were I have open space in my compartments, and I have it set up to live out of for weeks. Against Steve's advice I will be plugging my livewell to be able to store (life jackets, a daily bucket, rope, beach shoes, garbage can & cooler) The rod storage is great, I can lock up 12 rods and strap another 10 to the decks. I bought a 150 fourstroke, not for the speed but the fact that I can idle back and save gas. At 3000 rpms I can cruise at 25-28 mph. Open it up and it is a rocket, 54+. I will be adding a 9.9 pro kicker mainly so I can get back if I hit a rock. We installed a 80 Terrova Link which has more technology than I will ever use. 2 - 8 inch humminbirds. I put the bow unit on a long ram mount so it is closer to my older eyes. They are all locked on. Between the lockable rod storage, compartments and dura locks, I can lock up everything which helps a guy sleep. I could go on and on but I am not a good writer, I hope my pictures come through as I have been struggling with that. If you have any question please contact me, if you ever are interested in a Tuffy I would certainly give Mike a call. The only regret is that I didn't do this 20 years ago. This is one kick a-- boat. Sweet boat! Customized for musky fishing makes it one of a kind. Especially like that you can lock everything up and not have to worry too much about getting your stuff stolen. I worry about that all the time.

Location: Not far enough north! | I've had mine a few years now and just got her set up perfect. Just wait till you get a day on the woods with 2-3 footers and you will really be impressed. Mine really likes to cruise at about 28 in those conditions. So smooth you won't believe it... Attachments ---------------- 1161 (Copy).jpg (111KB - 507 downloads)

Posts: 516 Location: Kildeer, IL | I have the same boat and the same color. Moving the gas tank fill is probably the best thing ever done to that boat. I think Tuffy needs to re-engineer the gas fill. It is right where everyone lays their rods. I'd rather not lean them against the console. I prefer to strap my rods down.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Congrats on your new rig! I've been dreaming about a 1760T for a few years now. Like you said, they offer a lot of features that many boats only have one or two of. Even better that you ordered it new and had it customized to your needs. I enjoyed reading your write up, and imagine it's a real treat to fish out of. Nice choice! Tucker

Posts: 159 | Ya count me in---mine is a 2004 Osprey Esox Deep V SC with a 150 Opti.... Wish I could post a pic---black metal flake---really great looking boat.. As the others have said---for Musky casting/trolling---can't imagine anything better.... Mine was like new for 15K under 100 hours on the motor.... You made good choice--- Tip----if you cast/troll alone---take the passenger seat out-----just an amazing open layout that way.....I have a really nice butt seat up front for casting that I leave up there..... Mine just screams at 55 mph with the opt.......but like the others said cruising around 30 is really smooth and fuel efficient .... The only thing that keeps mine from a perfect 10 is the low transom in my model year-----really stupid design if you ever have to park stern out for any reason---waves come over the transom --I learned the hard way in a storm the first year I had mine and swamped it....-other than that.... Lots of love for your boat on here.....

Posts: 13 Location: Orwell, Oh | Great Post BT! Really enjoyed your breakdown, I'll be looking to purchase in the next 6 months so...? Can someone elaborate on "True Vee Hull" his number #1 requirement?

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | A 'true' deep V is determined by hull design and dead-rise. http://www.weldcraftmarine.com/deadrise-defined/ If you need to talk with someone who knows the boat well on the phone about a 1760, from your location I'd recommend Mike at MD Services. 262.206.3045. He and Mike at Boulder Marine are your best/only source for complete information on any Tuffy model at this time.

Posts: 512 | is a 90 hp opti enough motor for those boats? thanks

Posts: 633 Location: Madison, WI | I’d say no on the 90. I had one with a 115 fourstroke and it was a little slow out of the hole. Tried several props and some helped but it never did “jump” on plane. Overall it was a great boat with a great layout but I would not put a 90 on a 1760. The 115 was a 36-38 mph boat

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Regarding a 90, I guess yes and no. The tiller 1760 I have is maxed with a 75, and it gets me around. But yes it can be fairly slow out out of the hole when loaded and isn't a rocket. With a normal load and 4 blade prop average top end is about 32 or 33. With a faster 3 blade and a lighter load I've touched 37 but don't count on that. A correctly propped 90 will work... but if going console I'd max it out or at least go as big as you can afford.

Posts: 7047 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Get a 150. Pay the extra coin now and you will have: -better hole shot -better overall speed -better re-sale value -better looking cool for the ladies -will be fun to beat 620s running a 200

Posts: 512 | ha, i hear ya... but its a used one and turns out its a 1700, not a 1760.. so that 90 should work ok on the smaller boat im guessing?

Posts: 633 Location: Madison, WI | The 90 on the 1700 will be just fine. Should be mid to high 30s. I also had a 1700 and that had a 90 ETec and performed great

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I think a 90 on the 1700 would be ok. Depending on what you want though, I do think the 1700 will fish quite a bit smaller than a 1760.
