The Akena features all aluminum body and spool construction for rigidity and long-wearing durability. The drag set is all of Carbonite construction for superior performance. For active anglers, the handle set is oversized, including a longer throw and oversized knobs. The result is both power and comfort… all day long. Me too. Can we stop the promotion now so I have a better chance at winning it? Sounds like a nice reel, and I am excited to hear that the throw length on the handles has been lengthened. I like powerhandles, but I like a good double paddle handle for a lot of stuff too.

Just to let you guys know. Been using the Akema for the past week or so. Seems to be a pretty nice reel. Been casting smaller sized bucktails, 6-8" cranks, and normal size spinner baits. Did a great job! No problems with backlashes or release problems. Nice and smooth.

Used it for around 20 minutes with a top water and I could cast it almost out of sight.

Did a little work with a DCG and for the little time I used it it was fine. The handle is some where betweeen a power handle and a regular handle. Seemed to work pretty well and very comfortable. Still need to do this some more to get a good feel for this.

So far, so good!

Doug, have you ever used the Okuma Red Isis with the double paddle handle? If so, how long is the Akena handle in comparison to that one? I guess I would have rated that one as somewhere between a regular and power handle. Almost as long as a power handle, but without the big knob they have.

I have one of the large paddle handles, and it's as easy for me to use as the Power Handle, I found.
