Location: Kronenwetter, WI | 1. What book do you like for a listings of lure running depths at different speeds/feet of line out? Musky Mike's Trolling Secrets has a bit over 50 baits listed. Not sure about Precision Trolling by Holt.
What is good about each?
Is there something better?
2. Has anyone used the Shakespere clip-on line counter? Easy to use one unit when setting multiple lines?

| I've used Musky Mikes book and from the limited cross checking I've done it seems pretty accurate. I only get out fishing a few times per year so don't have a lot of time to build my own dive curves.
I use the shakespeare clip on line counters and they work well. You can use one unit to set multiple lines - just don't tighten the thumb screw, hold the rod in one hand and the line counter in the other while setting the line. |

Location: Appleton | I would recommend Musky Mikes. Has most everything that is common to trolling for muskies. I think version 2 by drifter has more baits but also seems to be missing some from the older original version. |

According to the guys at Precision Trolling changing your speed will not change the depth a crankbait runs.
In the Musky Mike's book depths for non-crank bait lures like Bulldogs are given in 2 and 4mph speeds. |

Location: Grand Rapids MN | When its the lip providing the lure depth then they say speed is negligible but if weight is involved then yes it matters. Weighted items will run deeper at slower speeds; so a weighted/count down crank may run a little deeper at slower speeds.

| Don't have my book with me now for the full curve on 10" Jakes, but I know 70' runs it at 12' and 94' runs it at 14'.
And don't forget when setting your linecounter to account for the length of line from reel to end of leader, e.g., 8' rod and 4' leader means your counter only needs to be at 58' to have 70' of line out. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | Put your rod tip a foot from the surface and note how far back the line enters the water. This will give you the ratio at the speed your running. If your line enters the water 4 foot back your going down aprox 1 foot for every 4. At some point you will reach max depth and water pressure on the line will prevent more depth and may even start bringing your lure shallower |

| When trolling what do you primarily look for on your depth finder? Just bait fish, or bait fish with larger fish mixed? I got a new depth finder, and just wondering what types of scenarios people look for that makes them keep working a spot, or run back when they cant find fish anywhere else? |

Location: Eastern Ontario | What you see will depend on your depth. If you don't see bait it may be high in the water and outside of your cone. In deeper water I like to see bait balled up even if I don't see large fish. Seeing what I think is a muskie is a plus. I fish breaklines where I have a history no matter what I see on depthfinder. |

| Frank those breaklines have a hundred year history. That really helps when you know the traditional migration routes. Certainly love to see big fish on the sonar! Sometimes it seams like there is too much bait. It`s so thick on Greenwood sometimes I mark a false bottom. Sonar say 12' when I know it`s 30'. |
