Posts: 264 | Hey just wondering what people will start out with for the Minnesota or any other northern states openers. Ill be trying spring bulldawgs, smaller sized spinnerbaits, and maybe a topraider or jackpot at daybreak. Edited by 619musky 5/14/2009 6:03 PM

I won't be out there, but I would probably use Shallow Invaders and Phantoms almost the entire time. Maybe a homemade jerkbait as well. Good luck.

Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Daybreak, Ya gota go with a Weagle in the shallows for about 2-3 hrs......You Will have something hit , so hang on ! After that I'd go with a few different colored Phantoms or Reefhawgs,Hellhounds, ect... moved slower than normal,.. or... maybe fast. Let the fish tell ya. Mag Dawds of course. Dusk,.... Weagle or Creeper.....Pace Maker, Top Raider. I also would like to throw the new Cow Dussa, or Cow Girl, but I'll be in Wi. fishing the Mac Tournament with Mr. Winther and netting His fish.....LOL. Posts: 223 Location: Minn. | Last year I changed tactics due to large amount of boats on our local lake. There seemed to be a boat every 75 ft casting the shoreline. At one point in the day I counted 43 boats on a lake of about 800 acres. My brother and I decided to work the secondary breaks between 12 and 14 ft. My brother caught a 40" and a 45" on a Super D, and I caught a 40" and a 48" on Curly Sue. Our best opener ever .

Posts: 203 Location: Alexandria, Minnesota | I have had luck the last couple of years using Suicks and Wades Wobbler's. I also like Jack Pots early in the season. In the middle of the day they will come up and smack'em. Edited by Dave Williamson 5/11/2009 8:39 PM

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | Does your choice of bait change if you're fishing tigers instead of natural strain? I'm thinking of giving the metro tigers an early run and was thinking 6" phantoms, small spinnerbaits, and twitchbaits (slammers, shallowraiders)...make sense?

Posts: 692 Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | If I were chasing tigers I would use baby believers, Rattle baits, Baby Depth Raiders, or #9 Shad raps. They seem to like flashy loud rattling baits, especially in the spring!

Posts: 223 Location: Minn. | 619musky That was Mn. But I'm afraid this year, we may not even get on the lake. Right now the access is only 8" deep. Unless we get some rain soon, I'll have to go to a different lake.

Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | If I were fishing it, I'd have a WA Wabull in both full and baby sizes available right close...and a Perka. I think a smaller Slammer or Grandma would get a bunch of twitching time too. If the weather turned cold, I'd probably try a Hawgseeker Slow Tease or a jig. S. (take it for what it's worth, I've never fished the Mn. opener) LOL
