| My experiences have told me that the small lure craze this time of year is a little overrated. I throw... MagDawgs Glitter Bitch's Weagles DDD DRaiders Nothing different from my summer arsenal...and we hammered them last year on opener in Vilas. | |||

Posts: 2091 Location: Stevens Point, WI | I really don't do much different in the spring, I concentrate more on location than bait type. I break out my topwaters right away in the season and throw spinnerbaits often too. Last season I boated a fish on the WI River on opening day on a Topraider in less than 50 degree water and had a few other blow ups.

Posts: 92 | We've had good luck with the 4 1/2" Cobbs Crazy Shad, the 5" Big Game Twitchbait and the 6" Thumpertail bucktails in early spring in NW Wisconsin. Also can't wait to try the new Cobbs Rattlin Shad glider this spring! Jim Stroede

Posts: 354 | Last couple of springs I have had the most luck with husky size hawg wobblers. Spring topwater is a beautiful thing.

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | 5 to 7-inch Slammers and Undertakers work for me every opener. If it works, why change anything.

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I would also like to add the 8 inch Delong Eels. Great early shallow water bait.

Location: Contrarian Island | they don't call em "spring dawgs" for nothin...great early season bait...twitched, cranked, jerked, jigged ...everything.... I have had a tendency to downsize in the spring but let fish dictate what they want....

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | Spring in Ohio begins at Ice-out, normally Feb-Mar. Subscribing to a small bait theory could be a shortcoming as well as fishing too slow. anything from a 9" Grandma to a medium Dawg to a 1/2oz Rattle Trapp has worked for me

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Around southern opener I like: 6" Nitros 6" Reef Hawgs full size jerkos(best of both worlds) Jack Attack spinners(similar to rizzo whiz with #8 colorado) 7.5" grannies topraider zara super spook 8" sucker or big chub Zalt 6" Bobbie 5" Crane(9"ers too though) Edited by Reef Hawg 1/18/2006 4:59 PM

| Stillwaters Cobb gliders Undertakers Killer Eels bass spinnerbaits I throw everything in the box that is smaller in size usually. I put more fish in the boat the more I throw Stillwaters. I just need to throw them more. Not the smartest kid on the block I guess. Ty | |||

Posts: 1939 Location: Black Creek, WI | Small Spinnerbaits (Mostly Modified Candy Spins). Baby Depthraiders (the action of a TripleD... only in a smaller package). Weighted 5" Slammers (weight is added for more hang time) 10" Jake (always need a big bait option to try) jlong

Posts: 686 Location: Tomahawk, Wisconsin | I seem to have the most success tossing smaller size bucktails although I will toss em the usual standbys ie. dawgs, topwaters, large spinnerbaits, wood, as well, but Wiz type baits are my go to bait til the water warms up.

| i don't buy the small bait thing at all .... mr. automatic gliders as slow as you can work them .... then slow down a little more an easy target is as effective if not more than bait size metabolism in cold water = cadence, not size IMNSHO | |||
| cpr |

| For trolling, i use woodies. The small ones. For casting you cant beat a crane bait | |||
