| I need some advice...
Would a lip stick be a nice rod for casting magnum dawgs and an occasional pounder?

| I now use a top 'n tail for tossing magnum dawgs, but a pounder is just way too much. so i thought the lip stick that is rated 2-6oz should be allright.... |

| If you have a top n tail, to use for the lighter stuff, i would take a look at something in the other end of the LT line up, instead of a rod that's close to the one you have, I would go with a Big dawg or Big nasty, so you got something that really throws the bigger stuff well. |

+1. I like the lipstick and use it for a lot of baits including a few that are a bit more than 6ozs but I would not want to consistently throw mags with it and wouldn't consider pounders. |

Location: mercer wi | Lip stick is way to light. It's a great small bait rod. I personally think the lure rating of 2-6 is a little off. It feels like a lighter topntail. |

| So if there isn't much of a difference between the top-n-tail and the lipstick, why is there such a big difference in what they are rated for?
What do you guys think is the to go rod for casting magnums and the occasional pounder then? Is any rod lighter then de big dawg or big nasty just too light? |

| If you want a shorter rod, "the jerk" could be an option, but the BD is imo the way to go, for ripping magnums and the occasional pounder. |

Location: mercer wi | They have diffrence action too. Topntail is fast action n lipstick is a moderate fast. St croix has a 8' xh rated up to 12oz. It's lighter n shorter if you want to stay away from the longer rods |

| I would go with the big dawg, or the Big nasty, the more powerfull rods takes 5 min to get used to, but personally i never throw a mag dawg on anything else then my longer really powerfull rods anymore, and i feel i get better hook set and keep the fish on a lot easier with the "bigger" rods. |

| For casting magnums and an ocasional super magnum they wil hold out, setting the hooks is a problem.
Personally i hate the big dawg, way to stiff for my likings, heaviest i use now is the Slingblade. |

This sounds like me a few years ago... Until every time i got a heavier rod i no longer even used the lighter ones i already had. Top n tail used to be my go to, its now sat on a rod rack in my spare room for three seasons. I have no use for it anymore. once you feel how easy it is not only to throw baits but fish them as well with a heavy rod, youll be selling off all your lighter ones in no time. I havent looked back. |

| I would never use my sling blade for mag dawgs, as i find i way way to soft to get the full potentiel out of the bait, but my buddy likes the sling blade for mag dawgs. So far the BD is the best magnum rod i have used, and it works great for the occasional pounder, If you wanted a rod for working pounders all day long i acctully find the BD a bit to soft. |

| Big nasty would be perfect for what you are looking to do. The rods you mentioned are way too light for those lures IMO. |

| No, didn't buy it yet. I'm trying to get my hands on a big nasty to feel for myself what it's like. I wonder why the full cork handle is only 14' vs 16' for the split one...? I think the longer handle is a real benefit. |

Location: St Paul, Minnesota | The Big Dawg would serve you better for what you want in terms of throwing Mag Dawgs and similar sized rubber. The Big Nasty is a great rod but it feels like Mag Dawgs are about the heaviest/largest lures you can throw and even then it feels a bit underpowered.

Location: Smith Creek | If you're having issues finding something over 8' in Europe the TMU or LTMU76XHF would do much better with mag dawgs and pounders than the Lip Stick. |

The longest rods he ships are 8'6. No big nasty its too long.
He also ships all the Tackle Industries Rods, their taper is not as fast as the St. Croix soo maybe they are better for you. They also make a telescopic rod so shipping of 9 foot rods is not an issue. I would take the xxh.
The big problem I have with most musky rods is that the handles are too short for my liking. I would buy the blank an get a custom one.
It costs more but its worth every penny. |

| Where are you from Mark, in Geertruidenberg, i know a store where they have almost the complete line up.
So you can compare the different rod actions side by side.
Custom building is good tip !! and not that difficult. |

| If a Big Nasty is out do to availability then I would get the Big Dawg. The sling blade is a bit too light IMO for pounders but ok for occasional mag rubber. |
