Other than lead poisoning, can anyone recommend a good way to encourage squirrels to find a home other than my boat's front storage lockers?

I usually put d con and moth balls and drier sheets in my boat when I store it. I also set a few rocks or bricks on top of the dry boxes and rod locker hatches. But a 22 rifle can ussualy solve the problum for the more craffty ones, and they taste good. If you need any good recipes let me know, I have a few they taste like chicken lol.

They dig booze a lot.
Set a trail to the nearest bar and they'll have a new home.

AR 15 or a Para 1911 with a 14 round clip..... That should do it....

I've had good luck with Fresh Cab rodent repellent. It's more expensive than mothballs but smells a hell of a lot better.

Once you have them out of the boat and running around on the ground, opt for the AR15...

The ads are based on what internet searches or websites you have previously visited, so what you see will be different than what others see....

The absolute best thing I have used to rid Raccoons, Skunks and probably squirells in an enclosed area is a marine strobe light
I have used it and passed it on to my friends and it has worked consistently. With raccoons make sure you wire it down or they will move it. good luck Jim

A coworker has been using a live trap and bringing them from Apple Valley to work in Golden Valley. Probably "released" 3-4 of them by now lol

You could always just feed them so they stay out of the boat...

Catch them in a Live trap and relocate them to a five gallon bucket of water. Or try this. http://youtu.be/l3Ya6z-NlDo

"I've had good luck with Fresh Cab rodent repellent. It's more expensive than mothballs but smells a hell of a lot better."

I switched to Cab this year since dryer sheets and moth balls worked with mixed results in the past.

I put Cab in 2 places in the boat and each corner of the garage. I also plugged in one of those buzzers that are supposed to irritate their ears (the kind humans can't really hear). I have to say I was a skeptic and if this doesn't work I'm going the poison route.

Well, its now April and no squirrels, chipmunks or mice. My wife also commented on how nice the garage smelled all winter too.

Reminds me of a funny story... My grandma used to get furious about all the squirrels eating out of her feeders. So grandpa decided he would put a stop to it once and for all by painting the feeder pole with grease. We all laughed and laughed watching them trying to scale that pole, sliding down it, and trying to scale it again. Then grandma noticed that the entire patio and sidewalk were covered in greasy squirrel tracks, along with the doorstep, the stairs, the patio furniture and everything else within a 30 foot radius. I'm not what happened after that, but the next time I was over there, there were no more squirrels. I asked grandpa what happened. He said they all went South for the winter. I thought that was odd since it was the middle of summer. The tracks all over the concrete? Those lasted a few years.

Irish Springs soap. I had an issue with cats a few years ago. A co-worker told me the Irish Springs trick. I stick 4 bars in the boat put the cover on and had not had a problem since. Plus smells better than mothballs.

Update - Removed roughly 7 lbs of walnuts from the storage locker. Other than a mess (cleaned up at the car wash) and a small piece of chewed carpeting in that locker, I can't find any damage. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any of the critters either (I wanted to express my displeasure with their efforts).

I hope the moth balls and Irish Spring keep them away.

This reminds me of a pretty funny story, too. Several years ago a buddy and I were fishing on a lake in Vilas county one quiet sunny summer afternoon. He was in the front and I was in the back of the boat when, after several hours of fishing, in mid-conversation I saw him looking down towards my feet with the look of utter fear in his eyes. I looked down and one of the hatches a few inches away from my foot was moving up and down. Strange indeed. All of a sudden, a brown fur ball comes launching out of that hatch at mach speed and in one quick mili-second was perched on the console windshield of the boat bearing his panther-like fangs. Wild squirrel! Hilarity ensued as this squirrel and the two of us jumped and exchanged places all over the small aluminum boat we were fishing in. It's a small miracle we didn't capsize the thing. Finally, that terrifying squirrel was cornered at the tip of the bow and since we were only a hundred yards or so off shore, gave him a ride to dry land. The man-eating squirrel quickly disembarked and the two of us let out sighs of relief as we recovered from near cardiac arrest over a couple PBR's.
