But I'm very curious what most trollers consider their best bait as far as trolling applications. Also what type of water are you using your favorite weapon of choice? Lakes? Rivers? Impoundments?

Location: oswego, il | Krapppie, these are the baits we caught fish trolling with last year. Mirror lure deep divers, slammer deep divers, depth raiders, G&M shads, monster shads, javelins, lindy big m's, jakes, mann's magnums, deep diving grandmas, shallow raiders, bucktails. Caught some on spinnerbaits trolling shalow. I think that is all of them.

The four crankbaits have produced a total of 67 Musky over 50" for me and my Clients,the order of lineup changes with water temprature.

Location: Eastern Ontario | Bread and butter would have to be a spinnerbait. I fish mosly rivers but do spend some time every year on a lake or two. They work for me from June through October.

Location: Kawartha Lakes, Ontario | I fish natural lakes with diverse habitats including shallow weedy flats, 100 foot basins, rocky shoals, and steep drop-offs. My preferred trolling weapon is the 10" straight Believer. I like it because it has a big profile and can be trolled in a variety of habitats and depths. A shallow eyelet allows the bait to be trolled 6 feet deep, which can be deadly along weedlines, rock shoals, and over deeper weedbeds. The deep eyelet will allow you to get the Believer down to 22 feet, reaching fish holding on deep humps, sunken islands, or suspended off dropoffs or shallow structure. It will also bounce off most rocks without getting hung up. The versatility of this lure is what makes it my #1 trolling bait. It can be fished almost anywhere under virtually any conditions. The Believer just plain catches fish!
Jakes also produce well for me.

- Hooker G&M Shads
- Terminator's/Wiley's
- Lil' Ernies
I pretty much only troll smaller baits, but these continue to produce and take a beating.

Location: Davenport, IA | I'm by far no expert at trolling, but I really like the believer. There are 3 sizes and all can be worked deep and shallow, slow and fast. They usually rune true and dont' require much tuning. |

Location: Bemidji, MN- | Most of my trolling success has been with a jointed 8" Beliver in perch and a black and white spinnerbait that I have dubbed "The Skunk." In late fall, a 10" "Purple Haze" Jake.

Location: Sheldon, IA | I like to troll with spinnerbaits and with a 10inch Jake in the prop wash.
Trolling spinnerbaits is my favorite even though I only caught my first one last year this way. A 42" breaking a four year dry spell. The only problem I have is I break quite a few spinnerbaits this way. But the strike and the sight of the fish coming out of the water behind the boat more then makes up for the lost lures. |

| Anyone ever try the 6" Poagy Tail? The biggest 'ski I ever hooked/saw (at least 50") was on a red head/white body w/ a 1 oz. jig head off a weedline. We were trolling for rockfish w/ planer boards and initially thought we were hung; unfortunately the hook pulled about 3 ft. from the boat. They can be cast easily around rocks and stuff too w/ few hang ups. |

I've just started to do some trolling myself and have found that some baits troll great while others are a little tough to keep from blowing out. For the short time of doing it I've found out that the 10" Jakes and Believers troll nicely. There's some baits that you can move at a pretty good clip while others you can't give her the berries. I see that there's a few others that I need to add to the battle chest.
I see alot of guys do prefer the jointed baits vs. the straights. Do you feel that jointed baits are more successful for all water types(dirty/clean)? Or do you determine the body type to certain water conditions?

Location: north central wisconsin | Krappie, I like the jointed lures because I troll a very dark dirty lake for the most part, and the joint gives that much more vibration and noise. I can also troll them very slowly and the jointed bait gives that illusion of speed. |

Location: Northern IL | We use spoonplugs. The are designed to run at exact depths and can be run at all speeds. Great way of locating the school. 
I also like Jakes 8"s n 10"s & Ernie's. Last season I pulled a Hi Fin (I think that's what it's called) off a hang and ran that in the wash and caught a couple of good fish, it ran pretty straight until the lip came loose. |

| without a dobt, the top 2 trolling baits over the past few years have been the tuff shad and lil ernie. Lots of numbers and several big fish. i also have luck at St. Clair on these, but i tend to pull wileys/terminators/ and lokes more there. |
