Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | Stopped at Bay Store around noon today. Looks like every thing is ready. Guides have mostly all arrived and were busy scouting. Food and most importantly the beer has arrived. Vets should be at the Angle around 11:00, after a breakfast in Warroad, with help from the Legion and VFW honor guard. The Warroad Customs will escort the Vets through Canada and check them back into the US at Young's Bay. A very helpfull gesture from the US Customs folks. Looks like they are ready to catch a muskie or three. Many thanks to MuskieFirst and to all the folks who helped support this event. Doug Johnson

Posts: 10 | The night prior to OM… We are all set for the Veterans to show up. The OM staff and guides set up camp at Walsh’s Bay Store camp. Tonight, the Veterans met in Warroad, MN and will spend the night there. Tomorrow will be a very exciting day for them. They will be honored for breakfast with a combined VFW & American Legion Honor Guard. Then they will be escorted to the US/Canadian border by the Patriot Guards. At noon, they will meet the guides at Young’s Bay Landing and taken to Walsh’s Bay Store Camp on Oak Island. We will post daily updates along with pictures at this location. More pictures can be found at: http://www.operationmuskie.com/newsandevents.html Thanks to all the individuals, companies, clubs, resorts, guides… that made donations to make Operation Muskie possible. Thanks to you support, 20 more veterans will participate in Operation Muskie 5. This will be our total Veterans supported to 100! Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 10 | Day 1 of Operation Muskie 5, 2012: The Veterans arrived to Walsh’s Bay Store Camp safely. The day started out meeting the Vets in Warroad. Thanks to the Warroad, Roseau, & Roosevelt VFW and American Legion for the Honor Guard reception. Also, thanks to the Patriot Guard for the awesome motorcycle escort to the border. OM started with the opening ceremony at Bay Store Camp. After that, 10 OM guides took the 20 Veterans out for their first day of muskie fishing. The Veterans fished for 7 hours before coming in at 9:00 PM for a great dinner of hamburgers and brats. The first day of fishing was OK. The muskies are transitioning to their summer patterns. In addition, the weather has finally stabilized for a few days. The 10 boats raised 30-40 fish and boated 5. The largest was 40” but many larger fish were seen. Overall, it was a great first day with many of the Vets learning a lot on their fish day ever of muskie fishing.

Posts: 10 | Day 2 OM V, 2012: Another GREAT day for the Vets during Operation Muskie! The weather was awesome and the muskies are starting to move. There were a lot of fish seen today with a good number caught. Here’s the really cool part… one of the Vets caught his first muskie… and it was a monster at 53 1/8”. Veteran Kurt Southworth was guided by Wendell Webb. He caught the beast on a handmade lure made by his guide. Check out the pictures at: http://www.operationmuskie.com/newsandevents.html The smiles on the Vets’ faces says it all! These Vets have made many sacrifices to defend our great country. Thanks to the many sponsors that support Operation Muskie so we can properly thank the Vets for their service to our country! Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 1220 | All I did to help was donate an auction item, but watching the event take shape and the thought in my head about what the smiles must look like on the faces of those who made "real" donations for all of us, makes me feel really good that I had some little part in this. Hopefully, a lot more of you will figure out a way to support this next year and continue to allow a good thing to grow. Good Job guys!

Posts: 173 | My usual reminder : if you appreciate the OM project look over the sponsor lists . Should you need/desire more muskie tackle buy from those sponsors. Likewise when planning trips , check out guides ,resorts and C of C that support OM.

Posts: 21 | Day 4 was windy but did not stop the Vets and Guides from boating a number of fish. After a full day of rocking in the boats everyone was glad to get back on land and eat dinner. The wind did not die down, so it was decided to stay on shore, sit around the camp fire and tell fish stories. I will try to attach some day 4 pictures. Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Great job to all who made this happen. My family appreciates the efforts and sacrifice the veterans made, first off, and thank all who help make OM possible. Ed, I am so glad you are a part of this. You are simply the best on the Woods, and OM couldn't be luckier to have you as the premier guide. Edited by Reef Hawg 7/4/2012 2:36 PM

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Reef Hawg - 7/4/2012 2:34 PM You are simply the best on the Woods. Should have read 'ONE' of the best, as I didn't mean to leave any of the excellent/generous guides/sponsors out. Heck, between Dick, Doug and Frank, they have as many years experience on that pond as any trio of guides nearly anywhere. Saw the photos of Todd Forcier above, and I want to recognize him for all he does at his tournament each May. Ed's involvement is indeed important to me, and it's been a thrill seeing his consistancy on that water such a positive influence at this great event.

Posts: 21 | Thanks to OutdoorFIRST for the support of Operation Muskie. If judging by the Veteran's smiles, 2012 Operation Muskie was a success. OM could not happen without the support from all of you that make it possible to 'Thank a Vet'. THANKS!

Posts: 32930 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Brian and I hit the water for a day of fishing today using a Violent Strike Operation Muskie spinnerbait, a 9' telescoping rod donated by Tackle Industries, and a Revo Toro 60 series reel donated by our friends at Pure Fishing to benefit the cause at Operation Muskie. Brian bought a day on the water I donated funding nearly half a trip for one Vet. THANKS sir, the day on the water was a pleasure. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]()
