Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | Season's Greetings Ya'll! I'll be driving up to Wausau Dec. 27 with my good freind Dr. Eisenberg. He scored a great job at Aspirus Hospital(heard allot of great things about it). So since we're both new to the area, was wondering if there are any good muskie shops or eateries that would make my stay interesting. He got a place about 5 mi from the hospital. I'll be flying back home on 12/31. Thanks

| if you're coming to WI from far enough away to be flying home, it's definitely worth driving the extra 1 hour north to visit Rollie and Helen's. the "World's Largest Musky Shop" is just not something you can experience anywhere else. http://www.muskyshop.com straight north on Hwy 51 to Hazelhurst. easy as pie. http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&do=nw&rmm=1&un=m&c... and you wouldn't be the first long-distance traveler to pose for a tourist pic! Posts: 1460 Location: Kronenwetter, WI | I live in Wausau area....Gander is the best source for musky gear...used to be much better, though....For good eats and brew try Herford and Hopps....grill your own steak and select from a variety of micro brews brewed on the premises. If you like Mexican Freddies is a must...two locatons...one down town the other 10 miles east in Hatley. Great ski fishing in the area too....If you hire Phil Schwiek from Hooksetters to show you the local waters, you WILL catch muskies. Welcome and best luck! Rick | ||

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | i think Phil is still a store department manager at Gander Mtn. too so make sure to find him. not many better in the game than Phil ... a wealth of knowledge too. and i think that Justin Gaiche is at that store too? ... anyway a good place to stop. the Herford and Hops place mentioned has a microbrewery too. i'm up across from Rollie and Helens so if you venture north drop a message and i'd be glad to help you out finding a place to stop while up there ... let me know if you need any help ... i'll likely be on the ice and you're welcome to join in if you'd like ... maybe we could get worrall to meet out on the ice around that time ... safe travels ...

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | Wow, thanks everyone! Not sure how much free time I have to work with this trip. Will have to try some of that Great White North of the border Mexican food....lol. Would love to check out R&H and Worrall's Hideout. Between unpacking and finding our way around the neighborhood, gonna be pretty busy. Will hit Gander's for sure! FYI ToddM, This is how we cut-up the white stuff in my neck of the woods! FYI ToddM, This is how we cut-up the white stuff in my neck of the woods! looking at that picture....your inside shoulder is dipping a little too much and you need to get some weight off that inside ski! Inside hand needs to be up a little too. Freddies is more Mexi-canned than mexican....try el tapatio or el mezcal....a little more authentic mexican.

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | Nutz, you know your stuff! I use to operate the NASTAR course @ Snowshoe Ski Resort here in WV. From what I recall I had just recovered from a potential "yard sale" during that run. I doubt I'll be bringin the skis to Wisc. lol

Posts: 63 Location: CENTRAL WISCONSIN | Raze I pretty much used to run the NASTAR @ Blackjack Ski Resort in Bessemer, Mi. back in the late 80's and early 90's. Spent many years as an instructor there too. Just getting back into the sport after taking a few years off. Spent many days on skis from the ages of 4 to 30.

| Phil and I spend some time at Gander still. It's a very nice area and I'm thrilled to be back. I would suggest 2510 for a meal. Very nice place, great food. This is an indoor golf range and a ski hill, no shortage of things to do. Ice fishing has been very good too. | |||

| If you are coming up from WV, and you are serious about muskies, you HAVE to make the trip to Rollie and Helen's. No questions asked, period! | |||
