Location: Parkers Prairie, MN | Anyone read the article in the outdoor news mag. Long story short, Some walleye guy's happened upon a milk jug a few feet under the water in a remote part of mille lacs. Attached to the jug (which had it's cap siliconed shut) was a 40-45 inch ski attached to a cement brick, kind of like a three way rig. Just curious if anyone else read this. I'm astonished. That's all I can say.

| A year ago I was talking to a guy who found the same type of rig. He had seen a strange swirling in the water and went to investigate. He found the same thing, and he knew a tournament was starting a few minutes later, so he eased out of the bay where this was. Sure enough, a short time later a boat went right to that spot. He said he didn't report it at the time, but he wished later that he had. I used to fish a lot of Bass tournaments, and some Muskie tournaments too. I gave it up, and don't miss it at all. I think there is more of this type of thing going on than we know. Probably always will be. |

Location: The desert | Definately not a surprise. It is truly sad what people will do if there is money to be made at the end of the day. Whats next, we have people sign false affidavids about the weight of a fish and claim it as a world record? |

| I don't know if this story really holds a grain of salt. The outdoor news also posted a false story about guys cheating in a walleye tourney earlier this year. I guess we'll see what happens. |

| If it is true, it's pretty easy to verify the fish and the time registered to know who the alleged cheater is. I hope the tournament officals make a very public announcement and ban the individuals in the future permanently. If not, who wants to fish a tourny where catching cheaters is not enforced? Duff |

Location: Minnetonka | All I have to say is... if you're going to cheat, at least WIN the tournament. Haha! It's easier to catch them during tourney hours than to try and pull off a hoax like that. The top anglers in the tourney proved that. Go fish bass if muskies are too difficult. (No offense to bass anglers.)  |

| This stuff used to bother me, but now I figure there is always a chance that someone is going to try to cheat. If they do, oh well, let them live with knowing that they didn't really beat the rest of the field. I don't fish tournamnets for the money, if they need the money that bad they can have it. Someday they'll grow a concience, and if they don't, well, let God sort them out !

I have heard from many anglers at launches of cheating and always thought it was just rumors. I hope these are still rumors.

| if BASS guys cheat for 100s of thousands of dollars with tons of judges dont be suprised if muskie guys cheat for 20k or less with little judge presence or onlooker boats.

| In any competition there is going to be cheaters... I heard rumors about snagged fish on Vermillion, and I am sure fish have been snagged in the sand of Mille Lacs... This does seem to be a little extreme if this story pans out, but it should be of no surprise... No matter what you do, if someone wants to cheat, they will figure out ways too cheat.. Seems like you may want to find a better method of cheating than to put a milk jug out, pretty obviuos to anyone who may drive by.. |

| It was listed in the "Cuffs and Collars" section which are reports from the MDNR Conservation officers. It's my favorite section of the paper by far. I love the way they "sensationalize" the stories a bit. |

Now that might be a liitle bit extreme. But the POTENTIAL for cheaters will be there. If I was ever inor near a tourney, and I saw suspect behavior, I would contact the tourney officials. I think any tourney that has large payouts, should also have in it's rules, a statement, and the real possibilty, that lie detectors may be required.
That said, I don't think every tourney has cheaters. But there are those that will strecth the rules, ignore some rules, etc. The person finding this jug should have reported it to the DNR, or the local authorities. I'm sure they would have loved to catch somebody in the act of committing felony fraud. I think there's a pretty good penalty for that. |

Location: Bemidji/Cass Lake | I saw a piece on bass cheaters on the news once. Guys submerge fish in large crates in a secure location. Absolute crap move. Anybody doing that sort of stuff should take one to the face. It's amazing really. Competition is fun in fishing, and it's a shame that some people forget why they like to fish in the first place.

| A lady in California was busted for having a two-pound diving sinker in the belly of a huge Bass she caught. I suppose she knew that she was close to the World Record, and made a judgement call. It didn't pan out. Strange as it sounds, she is still listed as having caught one of the largest 25 Largemouth Bass ever taken. They simply removed the weight and re-weighed the fish. |

Location: Illinois | The fact that a ski was caught on a shallow reef in broad daylight doesn't suprise me in the least. Vertical jigging the Fox Chain with J Mac jigs is not something I would consider but somebody did it and caught fish. The point is,don't lump the guys who catch fish consistently, or in ways you wouldn't have considered, in the same boat with cheaters.
