Now that I got you thinking back, was it still the one you remember most?

Mine was kind of... Well, boring I guess. Trolling in someone else's boat, all I did was reel it in. Just about every one I caught since was more memorable than that.

mine was a memorable bummer. Caught it in Vilas Cty on a "big" lake casting out from an island over open water with a perch grandma. First and only baitcasting combo at the time strung with Dacron. Two words.......hog tied. She rolled and rolled in the line, and I just reeled the log in. Releasing the fish may not have been a successful one. I was fishing with a buddy who got me introduced to muskie fishin' before I had my own boat, and it took a long time to cut all the line wraps off and then remove all the trebles. We both have good release tools now. Reeling in drift wood was disappointing a bit. But, it was still the first muskie. Lots of good catches since and hopefully many more.

it wasn't that big of deal to me since I had caught a half-dozen unintentional....Interesting enough the most memorable muskies in my boat weren't even caught by me.....1) My wifes first muskie 2) My fathers first muskie 3) Steve Jonesi's 54" hog eating at my feet.

My first musky was an odd one, I was using a pinnacle big game rod. it was the week before thansgiving, very cold water. I was using of all baits a giant jackpot, no lie, and i got a little 27 incher out of 3ft. of water, still the most memorable fish.

My first legal muskie was caught this year on Sept. 23. I was fishing Fowler lake in waukesha county by myself just as the water started to cool down. Conditions were not the best with a off and on rain. Wasn't expecting to see anything because the boat i talked to saw nothing and left. After a short time I was the only boat on the lake and headed towards the dam. On my second or third cast into scattered weeds and pockets with a grim reaper wildcat spinnerbait I felt a light hit and drove the hooks home. I kept good pressure and loosened my drag a little, because I knew this was no hammerhandle pike. After a couple jumps and a few short runs. I positioned myself for a one handed netting, a few trys later my first legal muskie was in the net. I measured 40" and was super happy. Got the hooks out and filled the livewell, and took her for a short ride to the nearest dock at a construction site. So I called the guys over and asked if they would take my picture. They were happy to and were surprised to see what I caught. A few pics later she was quickly back in the livewell. Another short ride took place and I was back at the spot were I caught the fish. Letting my big fish swim free and into the weeds after a good strong release.
40" and close to 20lbs

To be honest I cant even remember my first "intentional" musky. My very first will probably be one of the most memorable. Got it on Pelican throwing a deep diving rapala in the weedy mess of outlet bay. Somehow the bait made it through the weeds enough for a 42 incher to eat it. 8lb line made it exciting!

I definitely remember. I was trolling in the mean green fishing machine (12 ft plastic john boat) and was about asleep when the clicker screemed. And it was a jumper. It was around 40".

Nothing wrong with having a small boat. My first boat was 10.5ft and I've caught some big fish out of it.

My first intentional musky came while wading the Yahara river. 2nd, Fox River. River muskies are what gave me the sickness

My first intentional came from a remote little Canadian lake that a resort owner said was full of muskies. There was no boat ramp so we drug the boat down to the water and started fishing. The first one I landed that day was a 27"er that hit the figure 8. I ended up with a 34, 36, and 37"ers on the day along with several nice pike. It was the last day of trip and a few weeks later I took a 4 day weekend over to wingra on the Mad chain were my fishing partner caught his first a 35"er. That was 5 and a half years ago and I was using a black mepps musky killer. I would of never imagined were I am know tossing 10" jakes and mag dawgs. What I did know back then however was that no fishing compared to musky fishing. I realized that after my first follow of the day (well before my first hookup) and I haven't looked back since.

My first was 2 years ago. By rights I should have never caught it. The darn thing jumped out of the water 2 times. How the fish stayed hooked I'll never know. It took over a half an hour to relax after that.

Oh yah!!! I remember my first "intentional" musky. What a hoot. My uncle and cousin were visiting our cabin and the muskies were snappin'. As usual, I had snuck away by myself with my 12 foot Meyers aluminum rowboat.... and lost my LAST Rapala to the teeth of a nice musky. So... being only 7 years old at the time (1979) I mustered up the courage to ask my Dad if I could have one of his. After giving me a lecture of losing them to "snags" and to not lie about catching muskies.... I cleverly asked to borrow a steel leader too. Took me about..... ohhhh.... 15 minutes to row the boat back to my favorite patch of lily pads.... make that perfect cast into the open lane right up to the edge of the bullrushes.... and hook the fish that previously ate my last rapala. I fought that fish like a pro and even netted it myself. I can't tell you how proud I was to bring that fish back to the cabin and PROVE to everyone that I wasn't lying about muskies cutting my line and stealing my precious jointed rapalas. I was a hero.... and the recognition I received that day pretty much sealed my fate as a musky nut.

Jlong, I think that is the best picture I have seen in quite a while. Not to call your family funny looking or anything.....but I had to chuckle a little. Apparently you started musky fishing back in the days of big hair!

My first intentional fish hit just before boatside and tailwalked the whole lenght of the boat bouncing off the bowmount on the way by, how could a guy not be hooked after that.

My first intentional Musky was a 48 inch Tiger Musky in 1987 from Muskegon county Michigans Blue Lake. They are no longer there(all got eaten)I caught one of the last ones on a Tip up with a 5 inch Blue Gill for bait. It was about 10 below zero out. I whacked it ,took it home and chopped it up and we ate it. I didnt catch another until 1996 trolling in Lake St. Clair. I started releasing all muskies then. That was quite a while ago . Kingfisher

My first intentional muskie was in 1955 on Lake Kishketina which we then called Height of Land. I was fishing with (believe it or not) my sister and a guide named John Baronowski. We were trolling Paul Bunyan 66's. We didn't measure them in those days, but it was probably around 38". I was not quite 12 years old. Haven't been able to get away from those irritating, foul tempered fish ever since. We were on a family portage trip, my mom and dad with Mike Baranowski and my sister and I in the other boat. Lots of great memories associated with muskie fishing and muskie fishermen.

My buddy was fishing in the back of the boat Yelling is it 40" or what.. We were on a quest for a 40" muskie something neither of us had gotten yet... and something we did the whole fall to with no muskies to show for,, caught a lot of pike though.. Never forget the look of that fish in the Reddish water head shaking 4 ft. under water and the look of me compadres face when it made surface.. haven't stopped since

Silver Lake on a black fury about 30 inches. Around 20 years ago. Zebco 888 with 20 pound mono.I could cast that combo a whopping 7 feet if I really slung it. I was stylin too as I was wearing a short sleeve dress shirt. Ouch.

Off the dock on Lake Harriett. 37 inches. Some guy said he had a bat in his truck if I wanted to club it. Then some people took a bunch of pictures of it and never sent them to me.

A small aluminum rowboat was the craft, and the lure was a 5" firetiger Rapala(they just came out in that color pattern I think). What a hoot! Was with my younger sister. M-E-M-O-R-I-E-S! It was on my Aunt's & Uncle's private lake bordered by the Nicolet Nat'l Forest in Land O' Lakes, they sold the place, I thought I would never recover when they sold it. Not the one I remember most, but it did start a serious passion for these fish.

In Aug of 99 I caught a 42" on a Teasertail in about 2ft of water on Little Wolf Lake. I then took about a 5 yr leave from fishing due to my job and am very glad to be back in the sport for the last 2 seasons now.

After 8 years of trying I caught my first musky fishing with my sons on Lake Wingra in Madison WI. It was May 5th 2004. Casting a Janney Tail bucktail into the weeds just north of the boat launch. There was a little feeder creek or something because it was a little opening in the trees and then the weeds. One lucky cast and there it was. Fish was hooked good but not as well as I was! Can't shake the musky fever.
