How many of you guys will drive a long way to fish say saturday and maybe sunday morning on a weekend or alot of weekends? Or do you just fish local because it's not worth the hassle? I would like to do more of it(drive up friday night, fish saturday and sunday morning and drive home). My partner is in the hassle category and even memorial and labor day to him is a hassle. Just trying to see what you guys do.

Let me clarify by saying a drive of 7-8 hrs vs a drive of 1-3 hrs.

I'm all for the long drive to hit great water for a short period of time. My philosophy is if you are all packed up anyway - what's another couple of hours to make it to Lake X and possibly fish spots that no one has fished in weeks.

We drive up almost every weekend just to fish Saturday and Sunday morning. It takes 5 hours to get up to our cabin but it is well worth it!

Todd,I think it is worth the drive.I mean if you do it right and carefully plan your fishing out.By the way was glad to see what you had to say on Pentnwell. It's less than 1 hour away

Hey Todd, How's things?

If I was you,, I'd get me a new partner,,, or at least get a back up,, and if that doesn't work out,,, go alone.
We can't catch any fish watching tv. or banging on the computer.
Not counting my boys I fish with 5 or 6 guys throughout the year besides any guided trips.
This last weekend I had a trip planned with a buddy but he got cold feet,,, so I went any way, drove 7 hours fished all day Sat. and turned around and came back home. Is that crazy??? I guess I could have stayed home and watch it snow.... I would have normally stayed and fished Sun. but the temps were just to cold,,, (in the 20's Sunday morning) See ya out on the road [:praise:]

I drive 2-3 hours on Wed. Sat. or any other day I have off, fish till dark, often past, then drive home. I try to do it on days that I don't have to be to work the next morning, but I often drive 1.5 hours to a spot after work a few times a week, then come home at dark. 25 to 30,000 miles a year is the average for my pickup trucks.

I don't drive 7-8hrs for anything short of a long weekend. Last year I made more then 10 trips where I left at 3am drove 3hrs, fished for 10-12hrs, then turned around and drove home another 3hrs. Those were some long days.

I will usually drive 2 1/2 to 3 hrs for a day of fishing, and have been known to drive to Kinkaid Friday night and come back Sunday afternoon. Al[:praise:]

For a weekend, driving the extra few hours is a "no brainer". Since there are no good musky waters close to home for me, I will not think twice about driving 2 hours one way just to get a 2 hour fishing fix during the week. On weekends I can't get the family up north... I'll get up at 3:30 am... drive two hours, fish from 5:30 to 9:30am (a whopping 4 hours) and be home by noon to spend the day with my family.

Call me crazy.......

I usually drive between 1 and 2 hours to get to the fishing spots. I mainly fish in the netherlands for a looooooooooong list of reasons: one being I can fish from a boat (this isn't allowed in Belgium)

For what reason can't one fish from a boat in Belgium? Just curious. m

I always SAY I'll drive up to Millac (2 hrs) for a day of fishing. But once I get the boat hooked up and look at tonka across the street, I just say screw it and battle the millfoil and cruizers all day. I NEED to hit up north lakes more this year.

THE LONGEST DRIVE I MAKE IS JUST OVER TWO HRS ONE WAY TO FISH FOR A FULL DAY, ON THE WATER AT SUNRIZSE AND OFF AFTER SUNSET. ITS WELL WORTH THE TRIP.

Man those are some horror storys, I mean I have the best waters some 15 to 45 minutes away. One of the reasons I liked muskie fishing from the start was that I could sleep in and go fish whenever I wake up, muskies are not walleyes they can be eating anytime during the day. I don't think I ever got up before 6 am for muskie fishing. I do take one trip a year and it's to drive to a numbers lake to get away from the trophy fishing and thats a 3 to 3.5 hour drive one way.

Man I am so blessed and would even say spoilled as I sometimes don't bother driving the 20 minutes to fish only 2 hours but I would do it for 3 or 4 hours of fishing. [:sun:]

who knows? It's just forbidden to fish from a moving boat. You can fish (but in a very limited number of waters, mostly small ponds) from an ankered boat. No drifting, no trolling, nada!

Not even a belly boat is allowed on some waters. But surfers, waterskiers and small sailing boats may sail on the water. FUBAR is you ask me.

10 minutes to be launched, parked and motor started when I fish Pewaukee.

I am willing to drive 4 to 5 hrs for a weekend... but any more and I want more days on the water to make the trip worth it.

Year's ago I would not think twice to drive up to Pelican Lake ( about 4 hours) in the early morning and fish til dark and be home around 1:00 am. Now I don't like to drive to Okauchee or Oconomowoc that are 15 minuets away when Pewaukee is a few minuets away.

I think this question is dependent on the fishery. At times I resent the 2 hours I have to drive to hit musky water here, but it's better than the 4 1/2 hours I used to drive to hit even worse water than what I fish now. I would be happy to drive 5-6 hours to fish 8 on some WI waters, especially if I had a partner to help drive. I sometimes drive 2 to fish 4 down here but the day has to be right to do that. If something decent doesn't happen in the 4 hours fishing time you don't feel very good on the 2 hour return trip. [:knockout:]

YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT A BAD DAY ON THE WATER IS BETTER THEN GOOD DAY AT WORK. I HAVE GEAT FISHING WATER WITHIN 20 MIN FROM MY HOUSE BUT BETTER WATERS WITH A 2 HR DRIVE.NOT BIGGER FISH, BUT BETTER ODDS.

10 minutes to launch at either Flambeau River or Butternut Lake and just a go slingin'! It's even quicker if I've left the boat at my dock on Butternut.[]

Hi Guys,
I'm one of the lucky ones, I have
a 100ft walk to my boat and I'm on one of the best muskie lakes around.[]

Being a weekend warrior,I will drive 3hrs.35min to
3hrs.50min. depending on traffic or bladder up to Vermilion on a friday night. Prep gear, boat and whatever
else. Get up sat.morning at 3:30-4:00 - Fish all day
and do the same on sunday except I'll head back at home
between 6 or 7 pm , home by 10-10:30 pm. Ah,the sacrifices
we make.I hope to make this pilgrimage atleast twice a month.

ps - Guideman - 100 paltry feet to the Hallowed waters
edge.May you trip and fall snapping the tip of at
least one of your poles. [][:0] [;)]
