Out yesterday in the morning light rain and drizzle. Abt one o'clock I was ready to head down the lake when it started raining a bit so I pulled into a cove. There were some white basses jumping around and the screen was full of bait. After casting abt ten minutes the rain eased up. Then, I heard a sound behind me that sounded like someone dropped a window air conditioner in the lake. Abt a cast an a half behind me there was a hole in the water 6 ft round and growing. I carpet bombed the area with white baits for quite a bit but never saw the beast. m

But, if you think I went out just to catch something, you're "missing the point" m

That's liable to open up another can of worms.. Is the use of propane and propane accessories ethical?

I will be out this afternoon, primarily trolling I think. Did something to my shoulder and don't need to aggravate it.

When I first moved to Colorado in 1991 November was our snowiest month (we always had airport hell it Thanksgiving) the last period of time November has been mild. Last November I even went fishing in the foothills. After a record warm Sept. and Oct. November is looking like old November lots of snow. So I'm done for the year. Last night I watched a Hockey game in Winnipeg weather in Winnipeg 51 weather in Denver 27 snow flurries.

Just got back from 4 days in Vilas. water temps pretty much 48 degrees on the two lakes we fished. partner missed one on the 8 while working a Hellhound. next day we fought the wind but hooked two mid -30's slow trolling sucks around humps. fish were super sluggish. Cisco's are scattered during the day but are schooling and are moving up the water column at dusk. We should have fished at night but the wind and weather was too much The few musky fisherman we talked to indicated they moved some fish but thars it.

I went out again yesterday. Water temp had only dropped 4* since my last trip there; they are dropping the reservoir abt an inch a day. As I was driving to the boat ramp, I saw a boat heading upstream from the ramp, thought it was pretty shallow up that way. As I was prepping my boat for launch, I saw them paddling back to the dock. "Our transmission went out!"

Most likely, I told them, they spun a hub as they started discussing "shear pins". They looked at some of the baits I was putting out and one fellow stated that my baits were worth more than my boat. Well, my boat's going in the water, theirs is going home...

They assured me the big fish were biting today, that there were fifties out there. I gave them my usual line that I'd be happy with two twenty-fives.
I got one of those at the end of the day. I was still happy. m

The best fishing is just beginning in Minnesota. Two full weeks of muskie (minus Thanksgiving day). Then find open water for walleye.

Time is flying by, skiing resorts are opening in my part of the country, some radio stations are playing Christmas music full time, and Thanksgiving is next week. It's been mild so I go to a pond in my town and cast every day for a hour or so to stay in casting shape. (to stand and cast is one of the most relaxing things in the world) Just got a shipment of stuff to build a bunch of leaders this winter, I have a lure blank that is clear and needs to get painted this winter along with a couple in need of repair, A Grandma that needs a new lip, and a Spinnerbait that needs to be rebuilt. I'll be reaching out to the more skilled people on this board for help. My little pond had a little ice on the one end but we got some mild weather and I'm going to get the outdoor Christmas decorations before the next snow. It's going to be 65 on Saturday but a chance of snow next week. Time for the Winternet.

Finding a lip for Grandma? Alot of poking around and hoping and praying this lure has been broken for a long time and it's a 13" lure to boot. I'll check the Grandma web sight, or Lure Parts Online, and Dick Moore. The web sight that used to sale Mania/Sennet/ERC hasn't been off line to sales for the time being I think they used to sale lips for Jake. Speaking of Jake I meet him 25 years ago and he has long passed. Jake started and owed Grandma lures and designed the 6" and 10" Jake for Pete Maina. He didn't design the 8" and was not impressed. If I find a lip then I have to find someone who knows how to replace it. I'm sure I'm not the only guy who has broken a lip off a lure.

Yup, I've got a DDD painted by Stan Durst that could use re-lipping too. m

Ran to g et dinner last night and lots of Christmas decorations went up the last few days. (last years weather we didn't seem to have as many) Mild today took down the last of the outdoor fall decorations. I'll be putting up the outdoor Christmas stuff today. Most years I put them up on Thanksgiving but we are getting snow both Monday and Wednesday.

Going to hit Caesar Creek tomorrow since the weather is supposed to drop out next week. The ice fishing guys may be right about getting excited about this winter.

I finished up Nov 15th. We ended up with 3 fish that day including a 51.5. Spent most of my time deer hunting but I had to sneak out to the lake for a couple days which paid off. But I ended up clean missing what would have been my biggest buck ever last week. I will concentrate on deer more next fall. I want another shot at him.

Yeah, was a nice day. Trolled for 5 hours but never had a hook up. Most fish (bait and game) were deep. Thermocline is at 50-55 ft now (lake gets to 130 ft on the dam end). Saw nothing on SI shallow. Still beats sitting at home. Cold is just around the corner.

Put the boat away last week. Today, skim ice was starting to form on parts of the lake.
Maybe this year ice fishing will be safe early.

Back in the day the thing to do was hunt during the 9 day Deer gun season in Wisconsin (this year I think 23 to the 1st)then go Walleye fishing thru the ice in the evening. Not sure if they have had good ice the last period of time.

Went out Sunday in northcentral WI. Fish were active on suckers, but we only managed to hook up with and put one in the net. Was hoping to get out once more or maybe to eastern part of state, but weather isn't looking good for that to be a possibility.

Happy Thanksgiving every one.
