Munising is an interesting choice. Having lived in the U.P., I think most folks consider it a tourist town, both winter and summer. |

A lot of folks like Munising Bay for ice fishing. Just a little too unstable for me. Seemed like every couple years a huge chunk of ice would break off and the folks would have to be picked up by Coast Guard. Went on Pictured Rocks tour last fall for the first time in years and noted quite a few folks fishing in the bay. (To my surprise, little old Munising now has 3 cannabis dispensaries) |

| International Falls would seem to fit the description. Rainy Lake, Rainy River, Lake Kabetogama, etc. Plus it is the town folks going to Lake of the Woods, Eagle Lake, etc. are likely passing through. Stayed there in July on way to Eagle, parking lot at our motel and nearby ones had lots of boats. Every gas station had a couple vehicles pulling boats fueling up. |

Walker Minnesota.
Beat me to it. Walker wouldn't even exist without Leech Lake. We are pretty lucky to have Leech, Winni, Cass and a bunch of smaller gems right here.

Location: Brighton CO. | When I started this post I had Walker in mind. We stayed on Allens point not far from the town of Walker, you got reed's, we had a breakfast place, a place for Pizza, a grocery store, and lots of places to shop. All close by. Only fished Leech once but Walker was really nice. It's been a long time since we were there. (1999) We fish other places in Minnesota (my mom is from Deer River so we fish and stay closer to that area to be by family. |

Location: Alexandria, MN | Longville, MN. Several bait shops and marinas, along with bar/restaurants. Surrounded by the whole Boy River chain of lakes.
Honorable mention - Outing, MN - where I have my cabin. The local gift shops sell t-shirts that say "Outing - a quaint little drinking town with a fishing problem"
Alexandria ain't a bad fishing town, either. Tons of lakes.

| Hope to get a few responses from the guys down south. Back in the day, I could think of a couple before they became more tourist attraction oriented, that would be Branson, Mo, and Mountain Home, Ark. Kdawg |

| Just to add, near Branson you have Table Rock lake and Taneycomo, and Bull Shoals and Norfolk are on opposite sides of Mountain Home. And of course, the world class trout fishing on the White River Kdawg |

I tend to be disappointed in fishing towns because I live in a great one here in Ludington. I also thought Munising was an interesting choice. It would be behind Marquette, Escanaba, Houghton and even Iron River for me. |

I tend to be disappointed in fishing towns because I live in a great one here in Ludington. I also thought Munising was an interesting choice. It would be behind Marquette, Escanaba, Houghton and even Iron River for me.
There are many great "fishing towns" in the UP. I love Munising because you can catch brookies, fish the big lake, and then a short drive south puts you on some fantastic secluded musky water.
Ludington is one place I would consider moving. Every time I have to travel to the lower I take the Badger across and spend a day in Ludington or camping near Baldwin to fish the PM. |

| And something about Munising that was new from when I lived in the U.P., there are three (3) marijuana dispensaries in that small town. So, if you don't catch anything, you can still feel very happy. I was there last fall and that was a real surprise. In the 1980s,90s, it was a very conservative town. Guess that has changed.
On a more serious note, there is a historical society building right on main street and they have a display dedicated to telling the history of a long time commercial fishing family from town. Neat little place. Commercial fishing on Lake Superior was never for the faint of heart. Hard, dangerous and often not real lucrative relative to the work you put into it. |

Location: Ames, Iowa | Yes Longville. 350 people. In the middle of the North Woods. Wabedo, Little Boy, Inguadona, Leech. 2 hardware stores, grocery, beer store, tackle, restaurants, ducks...
And Walker is great too. The metropolis of Cass County. |
