Posts: 304 Location: Lino Lakes, MN | You bring up a great point What do I get for being a Muskies Inc member. My take is slanted to a MN viewpoint You get a voice, an organization that promotes youth, fisheries and research. - get a hard working group that is looking out for the future of muskie fishing. - get access to the Lunge Log- it is a massive listing of fish entered into the M.I. members only contest for the last 30 years+ - Muskie magazine- Not at the level of Musky Hunter but there are some informative articles, regional reports- what is happening with muskie fishing around the country- Chapter Updates and the Lunge Log reports. You do not have to be a member of any organization--- but today's muskie fishing in MN is a direct result of many influences of Muskies Inc. In M.I. many things are accomplished at the chapter level- It has taken me many years to get over that the fact that the International is a tool that allows the chapters to operate. I encourage you to get involved with a chapter of M.I. attend some meetings- go to banquets- spend some cash to help out your local chapter. Contact your local representatives showing support for muskie fishing ect. If you enjoy muskie fishing align yourself with a group that supports muskie fishing. You may have a chance to influence muskie fishing's future. You may even make some lifelong friendships out of the deal. Steve Sorgenfrei

Posts: 230 Location: St Paul, Minnesota | It's worth it. In Minnesota, Muskies Inc. does a ton behind the scenes that goes under appreciated. Yes part(s) of your membership money goes toward musky administration fees, musky stocking and rearing, tournaments, and major events (banquets, expos/shows, etc.) but Muskies Inc. does a lot around the community for Veterans, youth, and supporting the DNR to help with their stocking, policies, and other needs too. If you need help justifying it, just figure it's $35 of good Ju-Ju to appease the musky gods. C7

Posts: 1039 | Muskies Inc. is like any other club or organization. You get out of it what you put into it. Get to the meetings, meet some guys, share ideas/opinions/beers and get out and fish. What I like best about our Chapter (Milwaukee) is the fishing with other people. Good guys in the club that do very good work for the area.

Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | I just signed up a year and a half ago. This past summer I fished with 2 different members, worked at the MN expo at the booth a couple shifts, at the last meeting I volunteered to be a "board member" to get involved/help out more, and fished in the league night the last two summers. Plus, I get to know that I'm making a difference in my local musky fisheries..even though I rarely fish around the twin cities. Sitting in at meetings and listening to speakers is fantastic (even though you don't need to be a member to do this). The last few posts "nailed it." You get out what you put in. Get involved and have fun. That's what I'm doing. Steve

Posts: 55 | I'm over in Chanhassen, MN. and I was wondering which chapter would be better for me. Twin Cities or North Metro (or did I miss one)? I fish mainly Waconia and Tonka for muskies , and I am hoping to add Indy to the rotation his year.

Posts: 323 Location: Elk River, MN | It's really up to you which chapter you want to join, for monthly meeting purposes you're closer to the Twin Cities chapter, 20'ish minutes from Chanhassen, whereas the North Metro meetings are about 40-45 minutes. Many members attend both meetings (held on different dates). Consider attending both meetings in the coming months and decide for yourself. The North Metro chapter has a handful of members that fish Waconia/Tonka/Indy regularly, and I'm sure the Twin Cities chapter does as well.

Posts: 20254 Location: oswego, il | Alot of good people in M.I. Join and contribute what you can. Some people just don't have a ton of time but there are many ways to contribute. Just knowing someone who would be willing to donate a service, gift certificate or whatever for a club banquet is a big help. Could only mean 10 minutes of your time to raise money at a club level. I know somebody who donates museum tickets, another will paint 5 musky baits for example. It could be anything and not take much time at all, you don't even have to be a member to do it! Posts: 859 Location: MN | Yes I joined about a year ago. I enjoy the speakers which alone is worth joining. I would advise you join the group that's most convenient for you. That might mean the closest to you or maybe the one that meeting date works best. Your just more likely to attend and to me that's where the value is. I'm a member of the north metro and everyone is really nice. I'm not outgoing so I don't talk to many folks but several guys always engage a new face when they see it. As far as lakes I don't know that North metro has a lot of guys fishing the lakes you listed. I plan to fish only Indy next year I liked the lake the few times I went out last year. I always wear a happy hooker hat if you see me say hi.

Posts: 1000 | You also get access to the lunge log, which is invaluable data only available to members. That alone is worth $35

Posts: 3 | One of the biggest advantages to the casual MI member is the networking. You can almost always hook up with an MI member in another area to show you the ropes. Have several friends that have done this. So many people though complain and say they get nothing. $35?? Really???? Most of us have paid as much for single lures. If it wasn't for Gil and his buddies starting this great organization many of us would not be muskie fishermen. Who would want to chase quarry that is more difficult than what they are right now? I know many people have a diffucult time catching muskies now. Imagine a world where it takes the average fisherman 40 or more hours just to see a fish. Such were the times when I grew up. Took me 30 years to catch a muskie in the waters I grew up on. Now its easy.

Posts: 355 Location: Vilas County, WI | I've been following this thread as I too am looking to join a chapter. I live in S/E WI but do the majority of my fishing in the Minocqua/Eagle River areas. By joining a chapter, can I attend meetings at other chapters? Or in order to maximize the benefit of my memberships do I need to join the Milwaukee chapter AND the Minocqua chapter? Thanks

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | "I live in S/E WI but do the majority of my fishing in the Minocqua/Eagle River areas. By joining a chapter, can I attend meetings at other chapters?" In our case (Cap City in Madison WI) our general meetings are free and to the public. And our meeting is Monday night and we welcome guide and lure maker, Lee Tauchen at the 5100 Bar in McFarland (South of Madison). "Or in order to maximize the benefit of my memberships do I need to join the Milwaukee chapter AND the Minocqua chapter?" I dont think you can have a separate membership to two chapters, meaning that you pay your fee to both Headwaters and Milwaukee. I do think you can have a primary and a secondary chapter destination. Email [email protected] or talk to Ellen Wells at the muskie show about it. Personally, If I were you I would join the chapter that I could attend the the Chapter the most and reach out to the other asking for information like their newsletter and get involved when I was there.

Posts: 1220 | I ditto all the positive comment, joining is a no brainer. As to where to join, I picked Milwaukee where I live but find I'm totally welcomed by the Headwaters guys and other up-north chapters. If you are in somewhere, you are in everywhere.
