Looking for a good long lasting headlamp. I think it would be best to have a battery powered one just so you don't have to wait for charges. But any ideas would be great thanks! Would like a description of why you chose that headlamp or why you would tell someone to buy it.

best I've had is the energizer brand. reason I use it is because all the other ones I've ever had broke. most of my friends have also come to same conclusion and purchased the energizer.

I too like the Energizer. Has a red light, as well as multiple levels of brightness from the white light. Runs on AAA batteries, last forever. And, it is a low price point. I had one go in the drink earlier this year, didn't even care. I found them for $10 and bought 3 of them.

Would you guys be able to give me some specs on the one you bought? I have been looking on Amazon and they have like 10 different LED lights. I am looking for something that is really bright and last a decent amount of time. Anything around the 200 lumens would be great. I also read that the energizers shine a lot of light into your eyes. Is this just certain models? I might have to buy one simply because they are so cheap and replaceable.

I have a princeton tec and a petzl. They are both awesome. The princeton tec is much brighter but also much heaver. They both have crazy long battery life and are waterproof, a must have in my book for fishing. They are pricey but they have survived for 5 years now, I was getting tired of replacing cheap ones every year. Plus they are so much brighter!

Black Diamond - Spot

Anything you buy a wal-mart, including energizer, don't compare...go to Amazon or Ebay

Many may last you forever, but what you want to look for is lumens vs brightness vs battery life....Just do a google search on "headlamp reviews" and see for yourself which ones will work best for you.

they'll all shine in your eyes if you use them without a hat.

I have had really good luck with Engergizer Hard Case Pro head light. Going on 4 years. Cost about $30.

Maybe I am the only one, but I like to buy 3-5 of the cheap $2-3 ones when they are on sale. When one breaks I couldn't care less, $2 down and I grab another one. Plus, IMO you do not want a super-bright spotlight. I actually prefer the low-intensity flood light if equipped. That way, you are not blind when you shut it off. If you night-fish with a headlamp on constantly it may be a different story.

I think I am going to go with the Black Diamond. Also since this was just brought up with a buddy of mine. Do you guys fish with your lights on all the time or turn them off when you don't have a fish? personally I can't stand fishing without being able to see my lure. I would rather scare a potential fish then real my leader up into the guide holes. I have heard of people using bobber stops to let you know when to start your figure 8. Just thought I would see what your thoughts are on the matter.

I bought a petzl about 12 years ago runs off of 4 C Battery's that clips on my belt loop works great but I'm sure they don't make that model any more.but for how long it had lasted I would buy another one.

I have a mix of different head lamps from dirt cheap ones to mid priced quality ones from petzl and princetec. I have pretty much gone to using the biggest brightest princetec with the external battery pack. It has green leds for when you need to find something in the boat without killing your night vision. The white light portion is incredibly bright and is great for unhooking fish and it is bright enough to shine bouys for navigating at night. At any rate I would make sure you get one with both white and colored ones. The external battery pack ones last longer and are much brighter typically.

As far as making night fishing better the best thing I have learned is to tie a loop knot. No idea what it's called but I learned it from someone. You end up with a knot out in front of your leader and it looks/feels like a uni-uni connection going through your top guide. Rod can't be pointed right at it for this system to work. Not perfect but it works well.

I have heard of people catching fish boatside at night with red led headlamps on.

The headlamp I am getting will have a red light option. As for the external battery pack I think I am just going to drop the pretty penny for a pack of batteries. Yea they suck to buy but if it can last me more than a couple nights in a row I think it has done its job up to my standards.

I am going to be trying the loop knot as I feel like it is a very easy solution.

Thanks for all of the posts guys. I know it is a stupid topic but sometimes it is good to hear what people have to say after using products specifically for fishing.

I really like my Princeton Tec Vizz Industrial that I purchased direct. They also sell a Vizz in stores, but I didn't want the red LED's in mine. I migrated to this light from the Quad, and it is as bright on the first setting as many of the units with battery packs(this one uses 3 AAA's). What I really like is that I can turn it on to the bright setting with one click, or by holding the button down, it will slowly dim to the desired light amount I need. I used to have a separate(dim) headlamp for reading in the tent or working close quarters/around camp. Now I dim this one down for retying, reading, and Ninja, while the first bright setting is plenty for bringing the big girls to the bag.

I've always been a fan of fishing with the red light on at night, I hate not being able to see the bait. My favorite is using blades with reflective tape on them and they reflect the red light from all the way out.

Black Diamond Storm, very bright and about $50. I like it much better so far than the inexpensive cap lights I had been using. Noticeable difference.

I have a few as well... always good to have extras as your buddies will always forget theirs!
I have a couple of the Princeton Tec Quads, simple button on top, 3 levels of brightness, can be had for about 27 on ebay...I also use a Browning Pro Hunter Maxus..I like that one as the beam is adjustable from narrow to flood, very bright...and has some smaller led lights for tinkering in the boat / changing baits etc... $30ish...

I use the Energizer. I fish with my light off and use a rubber "bead" thing in front of my leader. I got a small pack of them at Throne Bros a few years back. They don't glow too well anymore but they still give a nice cushion on the rod tip if you misjudge where the leader starts. I mostly fish high vibration lures like 10s or crank baits in the dark, after a few casts it becomes pretty easy to judge where the lure and leader are in relation to the rod tip.
