Could you guys name a few of the more popular round baitcasters in the 100-200 dollar range? I have an abu c3 7000 and I'm thinking of picking up another reel that would also double for flatheads.

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | Okuma Akena $100 Okuma Cedros $200 has dual anti-reverse. Solid reel but a little slow on the line pickup. BPS Muskie Angler Series $100 Abu Garcia C3, C4, & Record $120-$170 Shimano Cardiff $110
There's some of the over $200 like the Diawa Saltist & Diawa Luna that can be had on Ebay for under $200.

I don't own that reel but I'd go with the high gear ratio 6.6:1 (29" per crank) over the 5.2:1 (25" per crank).

Posts: 39 Location: Cave In Rock Illinois | Calcutta 400 b is the way to go for sure. My kids beat the crap out of them and they just don' t fail unless you throw double 10's alot or engage the reel while casting with a bulldog or similar weight lure.

I'm wondering why you're going round when most everyone else is transitioning to the new low-profile baitcasters now available?

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Okuma Isis falls right in the middle of that budget, and mine has held up well to pretty serious fishing with Bulldawgs and double 10's. Shimano Calcutta B is a little over 200 and is a very solid reel. The Daiwa Saltist is a powerful, fast, durable reel, but not what I'd recommend for an all purpose musky reel. It doesn't have a cast control feature - only spool tension. No problem for heavy baits, but casting light bucktails, etc. into the wind can be tough at times. I don't fish catfish, but I bet the Saltist would be awesome for that.

Posts: 69 | Also try eBay. Every high end reel I own I have purchased on eBay, and typically pay 10-30% less than buying thru a traditional retail store.

Posts: 157 Location: Lincoln, NE | Okuma Isis 400 is nice. I've put mine through hell and back and it hasn't failed. The Calcutta 400B is a little smoother but that's expected with the extra $50 price tag over the Isis. One more thing, the Isis 400 and the Cedros are the same reel, different cosmetics. The Cedros is the inshore version and comes with a power handle.

Posts: 558 | Abu big game reel has an awesome clicker, nice power handle and some strong gears. Runs about 180$ well worth it. Could always find a older gray saltist, good strong gears and nice clicker also.
