Hey Guys:

I am just now starting to poke around with the idea of upgrading and getting a new boat.

I am looking to keep it under $40,000, so I think the Ranger 1880 is out of the question. I have no idea how much a comparable Tuffy would cost?

I have been looking at the Skeeter MX1825 and the Stratos 385XF.

Does anyone have any experience with either the Skeeter or Stratos mentioned above?

Thanks

At the muskie expo last year I asked the tuffy guys ball park what a 1890 dc with a opti, kicker, terrova, and linked up birds would cost he said right around 40k I would look into them as well since it looks like your looking at the 18 footers they're all going to be pretty comparable I personally like the tuffy with the monster front decks

I ended up finding a used 620 for a sweet price but would have went tuffy if I hadn't found it

Could do a Tuffy 1890 DS Esox Deep V with a 150 to 175 depending on desired options, plenty of power. If you are at the Muskie Expo this weekend, stop by the booth and talk with Chad Whiting from Extreme Marine, he'll get you a quote.

Thanks Steve, I will be at the show at some point this weekend. I wouldn't be the musky show without a blizzard!

Where is Recon made? I cannot tell from their website. Also, how long has this company been around? I had never heard of them until Bucher started fishing out of one.

Made in Iola Wisconsin. I think John has been making the Recon for about 5-6 years but he has a lot of experience in the boat building business. I purchased my 2013 Recon 985 from Joe Bucher at the end of the season last year. They are built rock solid and are true fishing machines.

I have a Recon 985 sc with a 200 Etec HO. I looked at the MX 1825 also. All great boats, it is what matches your fishing style. The Recon I felt was the best musky boat on the market and I have been very happy with it. John, owner of Recon, is great to work with and I have had my boat to him for a couple of personal modifications and has always been excellent to work with. You are comparing great rigs so good luck with your choice.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I find it very interesting not one person has mentioned Stratos. I've been told they come off the same production line as Ranger.

Not that it means anything if the functionality isn't there for a musky boat.

whats so hard about rigging a ranger yes the gunnels are closed but they have tubes to run the wires in to me it doesn't get any easier than that you don't even have to worry about keeping the wire up in the gunnels

although the open gunnels would be nice for stuffing led's up in them for lighting up the night

My buddy had a 386xf that we fished out of the last two years. Decent all around boat for the price. He had issues with the wind shield though. We fished mostly the bay and lake Winnebago. Big water. The wind shields kept separating from the boat. He just received his new yarcraft.

I had been looking as well until I decided on the Skeeter MX1825. Just picked up a left over 2013 and was able to rig it completely with a lot of really good options for well under what your looking to spend. Can't wait to pick it up at the end of the month!

I have a 2008 Stratos 385XF with a Yamaha F150. I bought it in July 2012 as a leftover from 2008. For me, it has been a great boat. Hugh cockpit, plenty of storage, large live well, very stable, and overall a great value for the money. The customer service through Ranger has been awesome. I think the new 2012 / 2013 versions are being built by the folks at Ranger. There are very few if any 2009/2010/2011 models available.

Warner's dock is only a half hour away. Stratos dealer. Anybody who fishes with only c- notes in their pockets should check them out. Lol. Great people, family owned. Give me a pm Matt.

what about the Ranger 1860? i've seen some new leftover 2013s in the 38-40k range at a dealer so you know they can be had for lower than that...

I don't even see a Ranger 1860 listed on the www.rangerboats.com ? Is this a model they stopped making for 2014?

The new model for 2014 is the 1880 Angler. For 2013 I think it was the 1860 Angler. Another close option is the 1850 Reata. I think the 1860 Angler used to have a list price of 38K - 40k. If I remember correctly the new 1880 Angler will have a list price of 43k to 44k.
