The front page picture tells of another great story of my dad catching a giant. We had the best of days and the worst of days all in a matter of a split second. My friends Jim Frett, Adam Teriaca, my dad and I booked a 2 day trip with Spencer Berman. We caught a boatload of fish. Five minutes into our drive home, we came close to not fishing anymore. Needless to say we are on the parkway doing 55mph coming around a bend and headlights are coming right at us. A pickup truck was driving east bound in the west bound lanes. We all walked away, the Triton aka "Big Red" took one for the team. She took a direct hit and sent the other vehicle away from oncoming traffic saving lives in the vehicles behind us. Big Red ended her musky career with a 51 an hour before she RIP. The pictures below are the highs and lows. Thanks Spencer for coming back and helping us out with this mess. It was a long drive back to Chicago and Milwaukee. Note the only thing holding Big Red on the trailer was the safety chain at the bow. All other straps and winches were destroyed.

Great story, well, the overall outcome I mean.  Puts things in perspective.  'Things' can be fixed...dead people can't.

Bummer about Big Red. Things can change in a second. Thank God for your safety. I'd like to think of my boat as my guardian angel too By the way, some of us are interested in the size of the front page beast. What are the dimensions?

All-
Everyone walked away from this and were happy to be at work that following Monday. All the right things happened for us to all walk away without any serious injuries.

The fish on the cover went 52 inches and we weighed her at 42lbs.

Why was the guy in the wrong lane?

As someone who's father was hit head on while driving on the interstate, I can honestly say that is a question you will never get answered, and is about the most inconsiderate question that has been asked on this board this year.

Interstate highways are designed to make it difficult to enter them to travel the wrong direction...

To the OP, glad you are OK.

We are all extremely happy and fortunate to be around after that trip! A split second slower reaction by Daryl or less than a foot difference in impact position and it would have been a much different story.

The guy that hit us allegedly had extremely low blood sugar due to diabetic shock. The paramedics at the hospital that night told us he would be fine as well (he was conscious right after the accident). It has been a challenge to get answers as he has not returned any phone calls (we're afraid he doesn't have insurance).

I wanted to attach one more picture that wasn't included in Daryl's original pics. Check out how much the trailer hitch ball mount steel bent from the impact. Impressive that the pin to the receiver didn't shear off.

Haha, really? What is inconsiderate about it? Sounds like they wanted to know and got answers. Seems like a pretty legit question actually. It isn't everyday cars are driving down the wrong side of the road.

These guys seem pretty happy about the trip and to walk away from the wreck. I'm glad that they did too.

Apparently you took offense as your dad was in a wreck. Sorry to hear and I hope he is ok, but it has little to do about the topic.

Did it happen in Michigan? If so when I got hit it was up to my insurance co. Michigan is a no fault state so as long as your insurance is good you should be fine there.

Jim,
Great to hear that is was just fiberglass that got tore-up. That diabetic coma is bad as I had a friend of mine total his car and didn't know it until his wife got home from work and saw the wreck in the driveway. The cops said he must of hit the back "T" bar of a semi and the driver didn't know even know it, because there was never a report of the accident. Glad you caught some fish see you at work.

Guest-

The last time I posted about this particular lake, Spencer took alot of heat from many. We caught fish of all sizes, the one on the front page was the biggest. Contact Spencer for a guided trip and he can put you on the right bait and color.

PS: I added a new 620/621 to my xmas list. Hope Santa gets it in time.
