Posts: 1 | Which would you guys recommend for throwing heavy plastics such as the mag dawgs, I'm new to the sport and want to buy the right one the first time. I was either looking at the jawbreaker or one of the TI rods.. I've read good things about the megaheavy 9' tele rod.. any input? Thanks!

Posts: 283 | Have not used TI rods but have used the Tooth Tamer. They are nice and handle plastics really well but my favorite for dogs has to be the musky innovations 8'6" super magnum.

Posts: 582 | I have both and if i remember correctly the TT rod was more expensive. I use both my TI an TT rods for plastics and they work well with either. I would go with TI just due to cost alone since they both work well.

Posts: 400 Location: North/Central WI | The 8' Jawbreaker by Tooth Tamer is by far the best rod I have ever used for big rubber. The long butt gives you great leverage for casting, and the action is heavy enough that you can rip baits all day long without wearing yourself out. It also doubles nicely as a livebait rod.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | I haven't run the TI rods. Heard they are nice though. I do run the Tooth Tamers, and have exclusively since they came about. I may go against the grain a tad, but I really like to use a rod with slightly more forgiveness than many, when using the rubber. I run the 8'6" heavy and xhvy for mag dawgs, and the extra heavy and the trolling rod for lbers. With that said, I have not broken any of the above casting or landing muskies yet, but you might check the rating before using any rod for heavy applications. I think you'd like both the TT 8'6" HVY and XHVY models for what you are looking for. If you are looking for a telescopic rod, I have heard great things about the TI line. Good Luck! Posts: 613 Location: Michigan | I would highly recommend the TI rods for throwing big plastics. I would go with the Mega Heavy rod in either solid or telescoping. The rod is a good price, handles throwing big baits very well, the rod has nice thick cork, and you will not find better customer service than James from Tackle Industries.

Location: Ohio | Lure weight on the xxxxheavy is 8-48 oz. and the line weight is 80-120. The warranty on the Tooth Tamer rods is one if not the best I've seen the little difference iin price is well worth it.

I've never used a Tooth Tamer, but I have seen and felt a couple versions, and the quality is definitely there. Tooth Tamer's aren't available in 9' at any power, though. That's the only drawback in my mind, but I know a lot of people use shorter rods for plastics. They are also exclusively one-piece. I own and have used a TI, and I can confidently say they are great rods. Can't pick one or the other without trying both, but the specs of the Tooth Tamers aren't as good as TI's in my mind. That's just my opinion, others might prefer an 8' one-piece.

Posts: 7 | I love the price and performance of the TI rods - can't beat a great price and a rod that performs as well or better than any other comparable rod (in my opinion anyway). The Tackle Industries rods are also very light. They feel as light or lighter than comparable St Croix rods. This along with the fat 18” cork handles made it an easy choice for me and after I used one that made it an easy decision to buy more of these rods. I have use the high end rods and the TI rods are as good or better than $300+ rods. I currently have 3 of the new 9' solids and one telescopic and I plan on buying one more this winter - if I can sneak it by the wife

I own both brands and find myself using the Tooth Tamer almost 100 percent of the time. TI did have good customer service when I had problems with the TI rods. I have had no issues with the Tooth Tamer Rods. I have a couple of the X heavy and a XXX heavy. You can throw anything with the XXX heavy. I caught a lower 30 inch fish on a bucktail while using the XXX heavy it is very stout but yet had a soft enough tip to give enough while fighting at the boat.

Posts: 19 | I have both brands but for the big plastic I always grab the Tooth Tamer jaw breaker. Just today a freind used it to throw a medusa and said he couldn't believe how well it worked.

Posts: 149 | I don't have a Tooth Tammer but I do have 5 Tackle Industries rods. After using my first one it got me to sell my custom Preditor and a few of my St Croix rods and I bought more TI rods to replace those. By far the TI rods are the best rods I have ever used. Include the incredible price adn its not even a choice anymore for other rods. Besides teh light weight adn action they have I love the Fuji components on these. You just don't see quality components on rods in this price range IMO. 100% Tackle Industries for me.

Posts: 139 | i have some TT rods and about 4 or 5 TI rods. The TT rods in XXh seems alot stiffer but i still throw large rubber with my XXh TI 8' and it handles them very well. either rod works, but the TI is cheaper.

Used a lot of freinds rods and own a lot of rods personally. Of all rods I have used my St Croix BigD and Tackle Industries XH rods that are my 2 favorites. I consider the TI rod quality equal to that of my St Croix. James with TI could charge a lot more for his rods and they would be worth it. Nkice to see a company charge a fair price for tackle.
