Posts: 230 | hey all, I was just wondering if it would be possible to shorten my Slingblade by a foot, down to about 7'6"? Because I am only 5'5" and 17, I would prefer to have a shorter rod, as i cannot work glidebaits and topwaters with it currently. If this is possible, who should I ask and how much would it cost? Posts: 51 | It's easy. Mail it to me and I'll send you a 7'6" rod. j.k. I'm not sure on shortening it, but I'd guess it's not feasible. It would be easier with a blank to cut the butt down.

Posts: 547 Location: Oshkosh | Well to start with, you are having trouble working glide baits with your Slingblade because its not designed for it at all. This rod is designed to have a soft tip so that when casting double tens the tip of the rod loads up, making it easier to cast them, which in turn does not make it easy to work a glide bait at all. I would not recommended cutting down this rod to use it for this application, just my two cents though. Peter

Posts: 2089 | Taking a foot off the Slingblade would make it a pole vault. Probably a little more flex in the pole vault. Baaaad idea.

| very bad idea.... the rod is not meant for jerkbaits...get yourself a different rod/reel for jerkbaits ...I have cut down a couple rods but only needed to take off a few inches max to get the action I wanted out of them.... get something like a 7'6" rod for jerks...you can probably find a great deal on one in the buy/sell forum if you wait.... | |||

Posts: 2686 Location: Hayward, WI | For rods at reasonable prices, check out what Gander Mountain has. Can get a pretty nice rod from them for arund $100. Also look into Okuma. I think they have a 7'6" rated for something like 2-6 ounce baits. Tackle Industries has rods with interchangable handles to make the rod either 7'6" or 8' for about $125. It sounds like the new Toothtamer rods are pretty nice too, and would probably run about $150 I think. Or, if you want to stay with a really high quality rod, I think St Croix has one they call "The Jerk." There are a LOT of options out there in quality rods. Do some looking around on this site and you will learn a lot! curleytail

| Hey, I am 18 and the same size as you are. I have been fishing with 9 footers for about a year and a half now, the length will take getting used to but once you do, you will not look back. Just use the 8'6" and you will hardly ever pick up your shorter rods. | |||

Posts: 692 Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | You already went St.Croix - Add to the set! Get the LTM79HMF aka the "LIPSTICK" It is a 7'9" Heavy - Moderate Fast. It was initially designed for lipped baits, but became very popular with the glider jerkbait crowd. It is an awesome rod! You get what you pay for - Might as well buy the rod you really want!

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | Trimming 1 foot from a rod will drastically change the power and action. The rod won't have the power that it once had and it will take that rod from being a fast action to a moderate action. If a particular rod doesn't suit your needs and it needs to be drastically altered, you'd be better off getting a new rod. Small changes are usually okay but not changes that big!

Posts: 230 | Don't get me wrong, i absolutely LOVE my slingblade....and don't plan on getting rid of it anything soon. It throws anything from 6" jakes to Pounders, great rod, very light too. Throws double 10's very well, especially with a Saltist 30LW.

Posts: 692 Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | Piker, get the slingblade for an all around rod. I love the XHF, but it is too much rod for a hard topwater set.
