Tim and i got chased off the lake today by lightning, tornadoes, and some of the heaviest rain i've ever been in. it was one of those good days to have a fast boat when running back to the landing before the worst of it arrived.
while waiting out the rain at the landing my truck got hit by a good sized tree branch.

driving home on the interstate the rain was so heavy that my boat filled up with water because i'd left the plug in. i could actually feel the difference in weight because there was so much water. it filled the entire bilge and came back through my rod tubes into my rod locker...good thing Tuffy has added one-way valve drains to all the compartments! as soon as i pulled the plug the water drained right out in just a couple minutes. THAT is a nice feature that they added based on feedback from customers and came in very handy today.

lots of tornadoes in the area, flooding, etc...hope everyone is safe.

Lambeau- Looks like we got some more serious stuff coming out of Iowa & S. MN. The first one just missed us- we got 2" of rain in 10 minutes. However, that storm tracked about 3-4 miles south of our place here on Hwy 82, i.e., through Lyndon Station area...... Saw you guy's were getting hammered by that same line of TS cells too. This one is headed for Reedsburg & WI Dells, and it might slide N. of Portage. The bad news is there's more behind it!

Go to the bottom and turn on "AutoUpdate" - This will give you 6 minute real time view, i.e., oldest view is 6 minutes old.

Be safe!

My daughter and I spent an hour in the basement today huddled up with the NOAA weather radio, and it is still pouring. Flash flood warnings over the entire SE section of the State from Madison to Milwaukee and south to the State line. Tornado warnings all over the southern half of the State this afternoon at different times. Supposed to do it again tomorrow.
Y'all stay safe.

Well after every pleasure boat on the lake headed to the ramp I thought they might know something, so I packed it in.  Saw some wicked lightning after I left.  I was heading north, so the weather got better as I drove.

Darn front didn't seem to get the fish going, I only saw one.

While on the river today, my partner commented, "Man, that's some wicked loud thunder." I remarked, "I notice you follow that comment with another well placed cast into that downed wood...LOL...."

Wasn't too long after that that the sky was split by a nearby lightening bolt...'nuff for us.

About 30 seconds before I climbed into the truck to pull out, the sky really let loose a downpour. Pulled into a parking lot and called home to have the Mrs. check the radar....done after only a few hours on the water....no ski's but a nice smallie just shy of 20 inches...

Gettin' up at 4:30 am for round two.

Our area got whacked. We lost two big trees, one of which, a huge red oak, did a lot of damage to our house and shed, plus it hit and the nextdoor neighbor's house, camper and garage. The winds were so strong, straight off the lake, that a couple neighbor's piers blew up off the water and onto shore.

I was up fishing Rollie and Helens and drove back to work at the airport in Milwaukee this morning. I'm tempted to get my rod out and cast on the new lakes between the runways! Airport is closed and they are using snow plows to push the water off the runways! I guess they had 4-5 inches of rain here yesterday and more rain expected all day today in MKE. I guess the men were acting like women the day after Thanksgiving at all the stores last night. Fights breaking out with guys trying to buy all the sump pumps got pretty ugly. We just had wind, wind and more wind in Minocqua all day Saturday.

Ive fished with Ed (musky time) a few times. You do not want to get in a beef over a sump pump with him!!

Hi Howie!

Too funny! Sorry I have not been up your way for a couple years. Always was a pleasure spending a day with you in your boat. Every musky hunter could learn a thing or two from you.

Have a safe season on the water!

Ed

It's pouring so hard here frogs wouldn't make it if the look up. The Mercury Marine Nationals are this weekend ( Walleye Weekend in Fond du Lac) and this is going to kill sales at the booths for sure. They sent out the 300 boats this morning...then brought them right back in. Pouring.

I went down in the basement last night to find many little rivers running across the floor. This is an old house with no sump pump, just a floor drain. Never had water in it before, but we got so much rain so fast that it made it's way in there somehow. Taylor and I picked everything valuable up off the floor and left it at that. This morning the rivers were gone, but anything that was stored in cardboard boxes was soaked. I went around and packed up a few big Plano containers with the soaking wet stuff and double-checked for anything else that could get ruined. It's raining and hailing right now, and is supposed to keep up all day, but not with the volume that we got yesterday.
The basement needed a good cleaning anyway.

I spoke too soon. We are under a severe thunderstorm warning for the next 2 hours and a flash flood warning until tomorrow!
I think that I'll be spending lots of time in the basement, but it won't be fishing related.

Well today was wild again. Got out mid afternoon for some fishing and checking out the damage around the lake. "SLOW NO WAKE" is in effect on Pewaukee again so I trolled from spot to spot. Stuck a low thirtys going back to the launch as the storm rolled in. Crazy weather.

Was fishing the Fox Chain yesterday( Sunday ) Left the Lake about 10:30 AM just before the Storms rolled in, After I put the boat on the trailer I pulled the drain plug out of the boat and hit the road, by the time I got to Richmond the skies just opened up with the combination of wind & Rain I could barely see the road or the back end of the boat so I pulled into a parking lot to wait it out, turns out that a bunch of other folks were just following my lights and pulled into the parking lot as well, after the rain slowed down and while just sitting there and waiting I looked into my side view mirror to see that the Automatic bilge pump kicked in as water was streaming out of opening this was even with the drain plug out, after the front pushed through it still took about 3 min for the bilge to empty, I can not remember when I have seen so much rain in such a short time.

Storm total for me was almost 10" here. Everyone I've talked to says 8->10" . Seems to fit with the NWS estimates.

Missing boater/fisherman on Lake Wisconsin, they found his boat floating by Merimac ferry landing. Some local roads are flooded/closed. River's are raging! The forecaster's say we're going to get a day or so break & then more! Be safe!

And it just won't stop raining, and flooding here. By noon today when the spillway release hits Des Moines,we'll see if we've still got a Downtown. One town that got demolished by that Tornado a couple of weeks ago,got finished off by the flood yesterday. You talk about if it wasn't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck.

45 degrees, horizontal rain, and 35 MPH gusts today at the FLW Tour on Cass Lake MN. Lovely weather, yet the walleyes were biting.

they're very close to closing I-90/94 and I-39 just south of me (Portage).
the Baraboo River is already within 3' of the top of the bridges and rising, with another 1-2" of rain expected Thursday/Friday.
while that's inconvenient for traffic, it's a nightmare for lots of people who live in the lower-lying areas in Reedsburg, Baraboo, and Portage. lots of houses along Hwy 33 buried in water already.

Mike...your right about it being crazy out on Pewaukee. Last night Sanks and I went out and I never seen the water so high. I was actually throwing baits in peoples front yards and reeling in over there breakwalls. I scored a 38"r the 1st of the year when I tossed a bait over the top of a submerged pier the fish hit the doublecow girl just as it cleared the end of the pier.
The weatherman is calling for more nasty storms today....I hope he's wrong!!
I'll be willing to send all this rain over to Norway if I could, but if I could do that I would be on the cover of MUSKIE MAGAZINE!!!
