Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | Darrel Mack and I will be on Crescent for our 19th year in Da' HoDag. It would appear that none of us should have to deal with turnover this year, which should keep all the lakes in play. On Crescent, give us some clouds and wind, and we will take our chances! We have the extra benefit of Darrel developing a New Custom Color 20th Anniversary HoDag Top-Secret Doghouse Bucktail, specifically for our boat on our lake!!! To bad for everyone else.....I feel very bad for everyone else not having a top-secret bait like we have........oh, no I don't! Good Luck this weekend!

Posts: 636 Location: Bloomington, MN | I'm actually pre-fishing the Moen Chain, or just Moen Lake due to low water levels for 3 days prior to the tournament w/o hooks on my lures(How stupid is that!!). I've given up on Pelican, and I want to register a fish in the Hodag after about 12 years! I don't think that I'm going to miss a fish of a lifetime on that chain while pre-fishing, but I want a check as big as the hood of my truck! I've had a good year up on Mille Lacs and as they say on the streets "Little Boy Blue, because he needed the money!" $5 says the winning team comes from Pelican and/or Lake George. Good luck Steve, and hopefully we will see you in the winners circle. Team Terry Thomson & Clark Anderson Moen with Pain Chain!

Hey Dave, I will get up there between 7:30 and 8:15. Watch for the lights to come on. I have to run to register before nine, so I'll be on the move. Steve talks about some secret bucktail color, must be something in motor oil, but mums the word on mentioning anything to your partner. 3 days to Hodag

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | I was memorizing the always interesting HoDag updated rules tonight, a I found a new section: Rule 74.6.6.2c Nobody with the last name Jonesi will be allowed to fish Crescent Lake or any other lakes accessible from Hwy. 8 any year after 2006! Boy, imagine that!! A rule with a specific name in it! Who would have thought of it?

Rule 75.6.6. B says you cannot fish water behind a boat that is taking lunch. You cannot follow the same track the boat that is taking lunch just did. You must wait patiently until said boat has finished lunch and let them take another pass while you eat lunch. Then you may fish said area. Braking of this rule will result in having to wear the pink Hodag hat for the remainder of your life.

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | Rule 75.6.6.c says that boat partners shall not bring up bad memories that could be determined to be similar to throwing salt into a wound that almost was healed. Can we say "HoDag Depression"!? Edited by Steve Van Lieshout 9/18/2007 9:10 PM

Posts: 636 Location: Bloomington, MN | Would Salmo be so cruel to us to go pink this year?? I doubt that even the winners of that dreaded year still have their hats! What Chuckle Head decided on that color "after tournament sponsoring..not"! Those BIG noggin/10-4 good Buddy trucker hats were outdated by years. Those hats actually slowed my boat down and caused extreme hair loss!!!!

Hey guys, here's a couple of "heads up" for you. The registration station on Crescent has changed this year. It will be in Wausau Bay at the home of Tom Pohnl. Real easy to find. Also, Pelican will be judge boats this year...no need to take your fish to the registration station. Just call a judge boat and we will come find you. We had to do this becasue of the 50 inch size limit. One more little inside bit of information. The first 50 incher caught and released will receive a free replica from Fittante Taxidermy! Good luck, see you on Friday. John

Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | I’ll be there fishing Boom with Jlong as Oneida has moved over to the management side. By the way thank you John for giving up the fishing to ensure the judge boats on Pelican come off without a hitch. With John now involved with the running of this event I am sure it will continue well into the future. O-yea tell Joe when you see him that I would like my fish in an S-Curve with the head out. And I want the Salmo Hodag hanging from it’s yapper. ![]() Man, am I looking forward to this weekend always a good time. Nail A Pig! Mike

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | MRoberts, does the judge boat on Pelican Lake mean that a boat can register more than two fish per day? It would be nice to return to the old rules allowing that to occur for all lakes. Edited by Steve Van Lieshout 9/19/2007 7:23 PM

Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | No Steve, only two fish max per boat if the boat has two people. Becasue they are running judge boats they could technicaly registure as many fish as were caught, but that would give a VERY unfair advantage to Pelican. So again the only difference on Pelcian is that the registration station will come to you, the fish stays in the net at the side of the boat until the judge arrives. Only two fish can be registured. On a different note, WDNR rules do state the following: "When a muskellunge is caught, the boat can not be moved under power except within the immediate vicinity of the capture site to avoid eminent danger and to facilitate a quick and safe release of the fish. " So lets say there is a strong wind and someone catches a fish near the rocks. If you are in danger of grounding on the rocks the WDNR does allow for bringing the fish into the boat and moving to safety. I am sure John will go over all of this during the rules meeting, but wanted to keep it out there. One other suggestion I would make is have an anchor with you. Not something musky fishermen normaly have with them, but it could keep you out of trouble and make the process easier in a big wind. Nail A Pig! Mike

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | After 363 days of waiting, its finally here! Good luck to everyone.........from second place to last place! First place is reserved for our Tuffy! This year's secret bait for everyone is a Hoola Popper with a life-like (live bait isn't allowed you know) Salmo brand green grass hopper trailer, fished over 15' or more of water.....keep those grass hoppers fresh!
