Best way to work it initially is to cast it in some clear water where you ca see what your movements do to the bait.

Exactly what Mike said, erratic taps will do the trick. It is a great glide bait ![]()

Sean, I like to "slack snap" erratically (using my wrist) with an occasional rip upward on the rod tip... It will roll, dive, shoot out, walk, etc..... Make sure to "long pause" it a few times especially at the boat. It will hang - then rock back and forth on the drop. I would say that most of my Hellhound fish hit on the pause....just like my Triple D's. man...that pause is a killer. I had about 2 dozen emails this last monday from guys that caught fish on the Hellhound for the WI opener. Most of them we working it as erratic as they could. most of the fish hit on the pause. matt ERC

Hello, when I work gliders of all types, I tend to mix in twitching the rod upwards instead of down. It really works wonders and on the hellhound gives a glide that goes twice the distance of the normal twithc. It will go 2 to3 feet to either side with an upward glide...mix that in with what was mentioned above and you have a great bait....Ben

Posts: 157 Location: Arlington Heights, IL | Hulbert & Matt summed up the way I like to use it and I got a 41" & 36" on one trip, but my fishing partner Rob uses it with a slow and methodical back & forth action and he nailed two 44's and lost two other fish in the 40's during that same trip. I still believe you will trigger more fish using it eractically, but sometimes they do like the slow methodical back & forth action better. Jim Stella

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | got my first Hellhound yesterday when i picked up muskihntr and H3 at rollie&helen's. ray charles could work that bait! i think it's my favorite "new" bait and will get alot of water time this year. you can slow-steady glide or take it to erratic moves and pauses.

Location: WI | I thought this bait was a total turd! Nothing special, and so had everyone else I let try mine lately, definatly doesnt live up to the hype, and nothing very innovative I cant get with other baits. got 3 custom colored ones I will be putting on ebay(because of what people are dumb enough to pay on there) soon. One is Shad Cain, the other is the Pearson Purple Perch, and another color I cant remember the name of buts its a green perch color. Colors are great its just the bait I dont like. I paid 25 each for the customs. I would prefer to trade for other baits if anyone is interested. Otherwise they will be hitting ebay within the next week or so.

That is where most of my strikes came this spring. Hellhounds? HELL YEAH!!!! Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 605 Location: Marshfield, WI | Hi Matt, I got a custom hellhound and used it for the first time the other day and it doesn't rock back and forth on the pause. It glides fine and all my other ones work fine. This happen to any others? Thanks, Krishna

Posts: 80 Location: IL | Shayne, TURD???? REALLY???? wow. Geez..Sorry you dont like it, bro. Email or call Dick Pearson, or myself and let us give you some tips on how to work it. After that if you dont think it is the "BEST" (erratic, controlable, durable, diverse, unique) glide bait you have ever thrown then I will gladly buy them back......as I am totally sold out and only have 3 left in my box. 1-800-783-0718 [email protected] Matt ERC ps. or I can trade you for Triple D's... unless you think those are "turds" also..... ![]() Edited by matt 6/3/2005 5:06 PM

Posts: 80 Location: IL | K-Bob. Try a larger hook on the front hook hanger.. That should do it. Or call me and I will replace it. They should all rock back an forth out of the box. Out of the 3000-4000 we sold so far..... I have had only 2 that have been sent back for not rocking. I put larger hooks on and they rocked fine. Sometimes we get variences in weighting? Location: WI | Matt maybe turd was really too strong a reference. I am a glider freak, and work them every way imaginable. I did have high hopes for this bait and it was just kind of a let down from the hype. Love the triple d's though, its definatly a go to bait. I will drop you an email tomorrow when I have more time.

Posts: 32926 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Mine rocks. Literally! I am very much looking forward to tossing it on Crescent this coming Tuesday evening. I use this bait very erratically, but that's how I work most gliders. Works for me.

Posts: 459 Location: New Baden IL | Only a trained eye would see the special gold flaking in the orange and black one. The Black/Chart/Orange will soon be sooooo tooth scarred that I'll have to look at this thread to see what it used to look like. Dont be hating on the orange/chart. one...This fall it will be demolished by the shad chasing Kinkaid Muskies! Redman put the paint on the Orange/Black dot and the Black/Orange/Chart Hellhounds for me! The guy has some talent with the brush! For sure! But give him some leeway with the black magic marker and WATCH OUT! Rod
