i got lucky, how about you? nice 37" with lots of spawn damage on back and tail. was buried in the junk in about 10" of water within a foot of the shore. it came out and swiped at the lure and completely missed...but not on the cast back! special thanks to Muskie Treats for making a great lure! Posts: 2091 Location: Stevens Point, WI | I caught a 26" dink muskie and my partner and I both caught a pike on the WI River today. Still cool to catch a fish on opening day on the river. Especially on a Topraider in 54 degree water temps and raging current. Edited by MuskieMedic 5/7/2005 11:11 PM

Posts: 1168 | The guy I went out with this morning had never fished for muskies before. I think he was half in the bag yet as he walked out of his front door wearing a pair of shorts and sandals. I tried making him live by my motto of "if you're going to be dumb, you better be tough" but soon he was asking if I had extra clothes along. Gave him a rain coat and a pair of hip boots. Fished the Biron Flowage section of the WI River and this guy had never used a baitcaster before. I clip on a smallish bucktail just so he didn't have to do any work with the bait. He gets the hang of it all right and is ready to start using other stuff. First thing he goes for is a pacemaker. Third cast with that thing and he gets a big blow-up within 10 feet of the boat that I think caused him to drop a load in his pants. About 15 minutes later I hook a 22 incher so at least we weren't skunked as far as muskies go. Got off the river around 11:30, unload all the muskie gear and I head over to Shawano to take my nephew out because he's been bugging me all winter to get him some bass. Only caught one of those but were able to enjoy one of the best things about opening day...the idiots on the boat landings.

Posts: 686 Location: Tomahawk, Wisconsin | What a great day!!!!!!!! We went down south and hit a small lake in southern Wisconsin and the report is as follows. One fish caught and it was undersize, we had over 20 follows with a few fish in the low 40's, the fish were on the move but were very tight lipped. Alot of them showed the scars of the spring ritual, water temps were 57-59, we were on the water for 14 hours, a little sore today but WHAT A GREAT DAY ON THE WATER!!!!!!!

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Muskie fishing on Pewaukee was outstanding. My brother and I caaught 4 fish and raised 6 others. The first fish came at 5:30am only 15 minutes after we set up the sucker rods. I told Greg to take it and the first legal of 2005 was boated. This 38 1/2-incher went nuts after the hook-set and provided plenty of excitement as it got light out. The second fish(Gregs also) came on a rattle trap around 7am. I had to wait till 2:30 for my first fish. I stuck a 38-incher on a sucker after it came in on a glide bait. Less than a hour later I stuck a 37-incher on a twitch bait. Jason Smith and Fred scored three, all in the 36-inch range. Tuffy scored a couple fish. A couple nice fish were also caught on Saturday. A 48 1/2, 48, 45, 42 were the biggest ones that I know of but lots of the 36 to 38-inchers. Great day on the water. Today we moved 8 and caught 2 muskies, both were 37-inchers. Had a great time with all the boys who came down for the opener. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | Was a great weekend indeed. Out with the boys (a tad hung over, and on 2 hours of sleep) we faired pretty well. Nothing earth shattering but we got 3 on Sat, all in the 30-32" range, including my buddies first ever!!!! That was very cool. We raised 3 others on Sat. Today, got out on Silver, and right off the bat, raised a decent fish, it goes for the sucker, and gives me the Houdini act. It some how managed to get the sucker off the rig, before I could even screw something up. ![]()
