For under $200 you won't go wrong with Tackle Industries. (Second highest rating on this forum, after St. Croix. I have both. Love both.)

I have TI and Mojo Musky rods that both fit the price range you are in. The biggest difference I noticed was TI has a longer and wider handle, which is better for some things, but worse for others. All personal preference. I do know that you would be hard pressed to find someone who takes better care of their customers than James @ Tackle Industries. Heck of a good guy

Would the TI XH be right for my purpose?

Yep that would work great. Can't beat a TI for price and warranty

How come TI doesn't make a "H" option?

It is just in how he labels them. I have 9ft MH, XH, and XXH. You can throw pretty much anything you can imagine with these three rods. I do have a 7ft 6 XH bass rod that I use for rattle baits because I don't really like how the MH loads with stuff under an ounce. It will throw them fine just does not load quit enough for my liking.

Suggestion: save your money or sell some gear...at 400TE deserves a better rod to be paired with than $200 can buy.

I have a few St. Croix Legend Elites that I like but they run around $550. Do as Slamr suggests and save up or sell a kidney or something.

I have a tranx on a TI and it seems to work just fine. It might be in my head but it seems like I have had better luck keeping fished pinned with the little slower TI rods than the faster more expensive rods that I used in the past.

^^^^^^^ agree with this.
Disagree with slamr. I like expensive things, like my wife for example, but the ti rods at great Muskie sticks imo.

I would love to buy a custom rod but I'm tough on musky rods. Seem to get stepped on laying on the deck of my bass boat.

For ALL rod companies, ignore the ratings of M, MH, H, XH, XXXXXH, etc. Pay attention to the lure ratings for the rods and this will get you a lot closer to your desired rod for your use. LOL after talking with a lot of rod builders & rod companies 8 years ago I went with XH vs H is it looked cooler as all of them said the letters really had no true definition or designation

I also have had issues keeping fish pinned with some of the high end models. Also thought it was in my head until I couldn't ignore it any longer.

Not debating whether or not TI rods are quality fishing rods. I am admittedly a rod snob and it kills me to see people go big $$$ on a reel while going cheaper on the rod.

guys are funny about stuff.... buying a few 550 rods and having over 1500 in just 3 rods alone? .. those 550 rods don't catch any more fish than a 100 rod... I have used a 20 yr old All Star 8 footer and I think new it was 120? Has more fish on it than most guys will ever see with their 550 rods... same thing w gear and boats... lots of guys with 70k rangers, with 12 inch units, and all the fancy gizmos but most don't catch any more fish than a guy with a 3k boat... point is, the equipment doesn't put the fish in the boat...the fishermen does... I have plenty of expensive toys, and lots of 20 yr old rods/reels that catch just as many fish as the latest greatest crap I buy...buy what fits in your budget, don't buy something just because it's expensive....expensive doesn't mean good or better than less expensive....

Best post of the month.
I think my tranx and TI go great together.

$120 was a really expensive rod 20+ years ago.

I don't buy quality because it's 'expensive', I buy quality because the product offers features and benefits I want. Value for the dollar.

I have a couple $500 St. Croix muskie rods, and a couple at about $300. They are worth every penny. The $500 rods are truly exceptional...light, powerful, cast like a dream, and an absolute joy to fish with.

I don't have a $70K boat. I also don't have a $3K boat. Mine is about $14K. I know for sure I'd be more efficient with a bigger, more modern ride. Does that mean I'd catch more fish? Yup.

I have a couple TI rods in the $200 range, and those are also worth every penny. I use a 7' TI for my walk the dog lures, and haven't yet found a better rod for that purpose.

Neither product pretends to be the other, and that is good for both brands.

Buy the best rod you can afford! If that's $200, buy the best $200 rod you can find.

I can get any rod blank out there- at wholesale prices. My two personal preferences are TI and St Croix LT. With rods, you don't have to spend big bucks to get big performance and durability. Wish that was true with reels...
