Posts: 15 | Anybody have any opinions on crankbaits and which ones to buy? Looking to boost my inventory of crankbaits, I have a rapala scatter rap and a bucher shallow raider, any other good ones you to get?

Posts: 73 Location: Northern Indiana | Where are you looking to fish with these crankbaits? Over the top of weeds, the weededge, open water casting, or trolling? This will narrow down your choices in my opinion. For example, a Triple D is an awesome choice for cranking/twitching open water but I would not want it for fishing in shallow water over the tops of weeds.

Posts: 1753 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Don't forget a shallow invader with the rear hook extended back for better hookups. As mentioned above Triple D, Depth Raider, Super Shad Rap, Lil Ernie, 5.5" SS Shad, 9" Grandma, and you can't go anywhere without some Baker Shads. One of my goto baits this year has also been a BDF7 fat free shad. I have 39 muskies so far this year, all but one of them on crankbaits, so you can tell i don't throw them often.

Posts: 35 | It's hard to beat slammer tackles line up. He has everything from a 4" deep diver up to a 12" twitch bait. They are all solid plastic and made in the USA.

Posts: 358 | You are so lucky there is more stuff out there to catch fisherman than fish. Seriously though Tuff Shads, Wileys, Hammers, Bakers great baits. My old favorite an J-13 Rapala. If you are lucky to find them Warner Crankbaits.

How do you compare/like the 9" Shallow Raider vs. the 10" Plastic Slammer. I would assume they both have similar action as they both have the square lips. One thing that scares me off the Shallow Raider is reports of the paint just flaking off. Once they get that straight, I might pick a few up.

Posts: 791 Location: WI | Action is somewhat similar. I think the slammer has a little more roll maybe because of more rounded shape of the body ? As for the paint jobs. I am the wrong person to ask as I own a business that repaints lure and have a tendency of repainting most of my own lures also. So mine have a few coats of etex on them. Although last fall I was using a shimmering shad and perch color 9"ers with stock paint jobs, and had no issues with paint.
