HELP!!!! I need me a slump buster. Just really wanting to vent and see if anyone has any advise. It has been two seasons now since I have put a fish in the net! I have no idea what is going on. I am not extremely hard core, but do get out often. I like to think I am fishing productive waters at productive times, but dang I just can't catch a break. Any advise?

Keep casting, and wait for cool water. Sucker's are the quick slump buster.

Depending on what waters your fishing. Id say stick with high productivity baits. Bucktails, dawgs, suicks, ect. Id almost say just toss bucktails till you hook up. Should not take to long.

That being said. THis is a tough year. I was at a muskies INC meeting last night and between 15 guys at the table only 13 fish boated. and 9 of those came from just two guys overall this season. so there is 4 fish between 13 guys. Thats pretty low, and I know those guys get out. It's been another one of those wierd years...

Love all of these responses and all for different reasons. I'm in Green Bay, WI. If I was still young and not married a weekend in Oshkosh could hold a slump buster or two. Ha. Seriously though I'm thinking I'll be casting until an arm falls off.

How are the crappies biting? There was a time in my life when I actually fished for panfish. I can remember stringers full of fish and never getting skunked because there was alway's something stupid that would run into your bait. Now it's like you do one thing wrong and that follow turns into a frown, it's not the same as a bobber bite and if you missed it the next one would be seconds later. Maybe the fall sucker bite will turn all this forum talk into a bad dream.

I fished hard all year last year and didn't get one in the boat until August. Just gotta get out there and make it happen.

I was thinking about the panfish bite actually. It's been a while since the livewell has been full of perch. Well, I'll be out this weekend again so we will see if my luck changes. I'll let you guys know.

I'm not always good about following this advice but I think it isn't a bad idea:

I believe there are always some fish hanging out in the weeds and on weedlines. Unless the water is stupid hot and we shouldn't be fishing for them anyway, the weeds should hold some fish. They might not always be the biggest fish in the system, but I won't turn my nose up at a 40 incher when I'm in a slump (or ever!).

Baits? Whatever you like, especially the classics. A regular bucktail, a double 10, a bulldawg, hardhead, Suick. Use something that is a confidence bait for you that tends to catch fish in a wide range of scenarios.

Last weekend we blanked on Saturday. The big cold front hit and we went without a sniff on Saturday. There was a TON of bait suspended out in deep water and I was stubborn and fished that almost all day.

The next day we switched lakes, and I spent more time fishing weedlines. I lost two fish on Hardheads. No fish in the boat, but at least some action.

Another lesson I learned there could be if you've been pounding a lake and it just isn't producing, try somewhere else. On the other hand, if you fish a different lake each time out and aren't connecting, maybe try spending some time on a classic water with known numbers of fish and stick it out a while.

In short, I'd try something different than what you have been doing, but give your experiment some time to produce before trying something else. That's the tough thing with muskies. The sample size data is pretty darn low so it's hard to know when to change things up.

KVD method. Spinnerbait casting and constant movement. Brown and yellow M/G with gold blades is my slump buster. Like curleytail said, hit the weeds. Also have been bailed out by trolling a jointed Believer in hot walleye a time or two in stained water.

There's nothing worse than turning musky fishing into a mission. Sucks the fun right out of it, especially when you're on a losing streak, and determined to catch a fish. Take a deep breath. The fish are out there. Sooner or later you'll be out there when the #*^@ things decide they want to eat. Take the times when you're just not seeing anything to experiment with new lures. Throw something small, throw something that's easy to work. Take a break, have some lunch. Go for a swim. Most importantly? Remember that it's not you. It's the stupid fish. For me, the most productive fishing has always happened when I stopped trying so hard to catch a fish and started enjoying my time on the water. It also helps to stop watching your lure and start a conversation with the other guys in the boat. The fish know when you're not paying attention!

When I get into a slump and am lucky enough to be able to fish steady. I do two things: 1. downsize baits & dig in! fish harder and with more concentration on the lure. This has worked for me for years. When they nip or push a bait I want to know it, that's how in touch I want to be with my lures action. Hook sets are free so when things aren't right, set!

Well the slump continues, but I brought a newbie out this weekend that was able to raise the same fish twice. To see him get as excited as he did was well worth it for me and I didn't think about the slump. A victory for all of us. Essoxaddict you are absolutely correct in what you say. It has to stay fun otherwise it's like a really bad job. Thanks everyone for all of the tips over the last week.

I think I was the second or third person to view this post last week, I almost commented but then decided not to for whatever reason. Probably cause I caught one Muskie last year and figured I probably shouldn't be giving any advise. But then I went out that night and did exactly what I was going to tell you to do and caught myself a PB. So maybe I should have said something, I know I have learned a tonne from reading this forum.

Throw some sort of blade bait (I like black and nickel) and remember these few little tips (all stolen from this site previously) there's always fish in shallow, pick a spot before you cast, don't random cast find the pockets and alleys. If you think you're reeling fast reel faster. Always get the lure moving the second it hits the water and do at least at least one turn at the boat. Not always easy but I started the year focused on these "tips" and am having my best year to date in a year that seems to be a tough one for most.

Good luck to you and try to stay positive.

Think she might have been a big he ... 48.5
Swam away before we could get a girth in the water but that's fine by me.
