Location: St. John, Indiana | how does the Ti Rod actions compare to the okuma? i'm looking for a rod to throw smaller swimbaits, both for bass and musky. i'm looking for a rod with a soft tips and not a rod that is a straight pool que. |

Location: Kansas City BBQ Capitol of the world | I have both rods. An 8'6 Telescopic Heavy and a 9' TI split rod 9' X Heavy. This is a comparison of the split by TI and the Tele by Okuma. No solid rods talked about because of the rod locker issue.
Both rods work well with smaller rod lockers, mine is 7 foot. The Okuma may be a little easier to work in the rod locker situation with the telescopic rod as it has a tendency to not get hung up on other things in my locker as much as the TI. The TI comes apart in 2 sections so you have that lanyard of line between the rods that sometimes gets caught in stuff but it's a very minor issue between the 2 and a rod cover solves all problems. The TI you can take anywhere as the 2 sections are only 4'6".
As far as weight the TI feels lighter and being 9' compared to the 8'6" Okuma the rod itself is only 3 inches longer on the TI, The TI's butt shaft is also 3 inches longer so there is the 6 inches between the 2. I bought the 9' TI thinking my casts would be 6" higher and my 8's would be 6" deeper, It's only 3.
The Okuma does feel a little "whispy" at the tip but that just may be as it's the Heavy rated for 2-8 oz and not as stiff as my TI rated up to 12oz.
They are both good rods for the money and I can't say where one just blows the other one away. I don't know what rods you are interested in, but between the 2 I'd say it's just a personal preference.

| started with the 1pc TI that has the screw-in cork handle extensions. Went to the 9' split handle grip telescopic TI and have 4 of them now. I believe it's 7'6" they stow at and I can get them and my trolling rods in my locker. I also feel much better after throwing baits with them for 8 hrs. |

Location: Northern Indiana | I have never used a TI rod, but I love my okuma 8'6" XH. Although the rod has an XH label, it has a very soft tip. I use it for small bucktails, topwaters, cranks, regular and mag dawgs.....everything but pounders and double 10s as the tip is a little light on the figure 8 with those lures in my opinion. The rod also has a lifetime warranty. |

You've just described the TI 9' MH. I use mine for everything from 3/4oz bass spinnerbaits to 3.5oz cranks. I'd use it for heavier baits but the XH throws 3oz and up with ease. I'm not gonna lie, 3/4oz spinnerbaits are pushing it, but it will throw them plenty far (I have a Curado 300DSV on mine). I like the mod-fast tip (read soft) and the way they shut off quickly with HUGE power in the bottom half.

It already is. In short, as long as you are the original owner, it was a manufacturing defect (not accidental), full retail price was paid, etc. You can read the entire warranty on my website. Only thing that will change is the time/charge info on the warranty card. There are a few companies that have a great lifetime warranty and mine will be inline with those. Thanks |

Location: Contrarian Island | wow, hard to beat a lifetime warranty...I've never thrown the Okumas but about 5 or 6 of my buds have ordered the TI Rods directly from James and everyone loves them and ends up ordering more...so that says a lot...I have tried my buds and if I didn't have a stockpile of old Diamondbacks I'd snag one or 2....
James customer service is 2nd to none... |

| Switched over from the okumas to the TI's and couldn't be happier. I need tele rods and found the TI's to be ighter and more versatile and better in the 8. Definitely better balanced and can throw a wider variety of bait sizes and weights with the same rod (xh) where as with the okumas I would have to switch between rods to throw different baits. |

Location: Ohio | I use the Okuma's and have been pleased; I haven't tried a TI because my rod locker fits 7' rods and the Okuma's collapse to 7' where I believe the TI rods collapse to 7'6". Correct me if I'm wrong but that alone forces my hand and may be something worth considering. |

Location: Madison, WI | I use Okuma EVXs for two primary reasons:
-I want a rod to collapse to 7' or less due to the size of my rod locker.
-I much prefer the Okumas 16" butt length versus the TIs 18".
With the newer two piece rods from TI, the first reason is now kind of moot.
Until I lose about 50lbs, the second reason still holds. Even then, I think I will still prefer the shorter butt length. I just find it easier to deal with. I am sure you can find many people that would prefer the 18" length. I don't consider one better than the other. It is just a difference that happens to be important to me.
To answer your specific question, I would say the Okuma Heavy (1-8oz) would be a good call for smaller swimbaits if you like a bendy rod. It has what I would consider to be a very soft tip. If you are going to get above ~3 oz or so, I would look closer at a heavier power. If I am throwing regular bulldogs/superDs, I actually prefer the XXH. I am more worried about setting the hook than keeping a fish pinned. [Insert your own joke about me preferring stiffer rods here.]
