Posts: 321 Location: Glen Ellyn Il | I have been reading and admiring all of your baits for at least 2 years. You gentileman are surely the best and someone to pay attention to. Over the years I gathered lots of really good useful tips and information, thank you. I love to muskie hunt and it is more fun to CPR muskie on our baits. I decided to make my baits wire through construction, the glide baits are made from red oak. My first bait is a 5 inch glide bait made out of pine this is my practice bait. I was going to pitch it in the garbage can but I decided I am going to use it. Anyway this is my first attempt on airbrushing and building baits spoonpluggergino

Posts: 321 Location: Glen Ellyn Il | No is more like Amma Bama, but actually different than both the bait is wider than the modivator and the end is thicker in the tail than Amma Bama. Ben modica musky fix is my friend and the Modivator is one the best glide baits around. I like drop belly baits and is really hard to build a bait that is not going to look like another drop belly type Thank You

Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | Nice! I'm hoping to get my first done this week and that it's half as good. One is an 8" glider that looks almost exactly the same as yours. I was figuring I would take some crap as well due to it resembled a modivator, bama, smuttly, and the countless other drop belly gliders. Glad you broke the ice! Good job man!

Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | Oh ya, dig the fin pattern... May have to "borrow" that from ya. ![]() I was curious how using a straight edge to create shading/lines would turn out. Now I know it's awesome! Edited by Targa01 3/6/2012 8:10 PM

Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | I've watched a ton of Solarfall videos and they are extremely helpful. Probably seen that part on fins and it just stuck in the back of my head. Like you I've watched this forum for years and just recently decided to tinker a little. I've also been talking (PM's) with many of the builders on here and they've all been open with how do things. Great bunch of guys for sure.

Posts: 567 | your bait looks very good! I would throw it for sure. dont worry about baits looking similar. you just half to get past that, with fishing the way it is everyone has a "similar" style bait, reason being we all try to mimick the fish.....fish are fish...fact is all baits are unique in their own way, be it wood type, resin, weight, paint, eyes, gills or whatever. make what you enjoy and what you like to fish with. for a first time I think you did an excellent job! I would like to see more pictures.

I am going for a slow sinker, this particular one I got lucky, it sinks nice and slow. I have done lots of research and what the pros are saying that they like to see the attitute of the bait head sligtly down for a glide bait, I do not know the reason for this . Later I will build one perfectly level to compensate for the solid steel leader. I am collectting data of the paint and topcoats, when I put a thin coat of etex one coat adds 1.3 grams of weight a heavy coats adds 6.5 grams on a 8 inch bait. Also the paint only adds about .4 grams of weigt. By logging all the data of the weight that the paint and topcoat than you can get very accurate on the ammont of ballast to add to the bait . Note that when I build the bait I seal it first than I prime it add all the hardware, than I do the dunk test to see how much ballast I need from that ballst you need to subtract the paint and topcoat, but have just enough weigt to make it sink the way you want. My leveling of the bait is done on the sink at this point make sure the hooks are attached to their proper location, very important when leveling the bait than I didrtibute the lead needed to the 3 holes, once I like the attitude of the bait I will take each lead weight and melt and pour in each corresponding hole. Seal the holes with epoxy and it is ready for painting and top coating I am definetely not a pro at this but I have been reading for abput 2 years and so fur the ballasting of the bait it has been working. Right now I am keeping the ballast very low in the bait , later I will experiment with the weigt a litle higher for more row and most likely more unstable. I am working on a crappit pattern, to make the stencil is easy but getting the spots to look rigt it is another stoy, but I love it. This will be my hobby for my retirement in a few years spoonpluggergino

Posts: 321 Location: Glen Ellyn Il | Thanks to everyone for your very nice comments, I really appreciated and gives me confidence. I apologize to the people that may think that I copied the bait, that is not my intention . I put a lot of time redisigning this bait. I did not think I could paint period, I musy had the air brush for about six month before I got the courage to use it Thanks again for your kindness Gino Testone

Posts: 321 Location: Glen Ellyn Il | That was over 30 years ago, the only muskie that I have ever killed. I am stricly CPR . I believe that no one should impose any one what to do, as long that we follow rules and regulation. I do respect your opinion. Thank you Gino Testone
