Posts: 427 Location: Roseau | Does anyone keep up with a good workout program? I have been a weight lifter for several years on and off. I started P90X 5 weeks ago, I just have to say it is awesome (and difficult!!). This will help out with muskie season next year for sure!! Any one else using P90X? Thanks

Posts: 32934 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Nope, but I do own an industrial sized wood boiler. Heat my house and my son's house with it. We lift ALOT of wood... I find it really hard to stick to an exercise regimen, mostly because I'm lazy, I guess. Funny how I always find the time to eat, though.

Posts: 2024 | Not familiar with the P90X (is that a supplement or workout program?), but nothing beats a core program with some cardio mixed in. I tend to focus on the core muscles, delts, all the back muscles, and the forearm muscle groups. This is my normal workout regimen, but all those muscle groups contribute to fishing; delts and back muscles for casting and figure 8s, forearms for gripping and reeling, core groups and running will help improve stamina. There's an old Musky Hunter article where Jim Saric outlines a "muskie workout". Can't remember what issue/year. It was a few years ago, maybe 2003?

Posts: 92 Location: chicago | I am an x linebacker, box for thefire dept and all was into weight lifting.I love the p90. It changes the workouts up alot and never thougth that you could get such a workout off the bands. I think the very begining of each workout sucks but other then that the best all around training!!!!

Posts: 897 | I just looked at the P90X website, and their workouts look pretty intense. I usually keep up a good workout regimen during the winter, but can't justify going to the gym during the summer. I definitely thought the work last winter paid off this summer. The only time I really felt like sitting down was up on Eagle after throwing cowgirls hour after hour, day after day... The best workout I've found, though, is musky fishing itself. Lost 8 pounds in June fishing 24 days. Granted, I was camping and thus grilling all my food. But still, musky fishing is a great workout. -Chris Edited by whynot 12/20/2007 9:41 AM

Posts: 897 | So what do you get when you order the P90X package? Is it something you do at home or at the gym?

Hi guys! I'm an ex-football player myself.I played offensive tackle for Tulane University.I remember back 7 years ago in my playing days the brutal weight lifting training we were put through by our coaching staff. I have to admit that P90X is second to none! It is an extremely tough workout but the results are well worth it! After my playing days past me by,I ballooned up to nearly 350lbs. and it was a fat 350.....My partner was constantly getting on me to lose weight, cause he was in fear for my health. So i decided to get back on a work out program to build muscle back and drop some of my baby fat! I just wanted to let my partner Jimmy Grasz know, how thankful I am to him! For him constantly staying on me to lose some weight. He changed my life around! My wife LOVES the new me and I have to admit,so do I.. I dropped 38lbs. and still im going strong! I really hope by my drastic weight loss, that i'll be able to cast all day like my partner.Cause there's no quit to him! Sorry for the long post fellas, but I got a little emotional as I started typing this! Good Luck to you all in the up incoming 2008 season! See you all at the Chicago Muskie Show!!!!

Location: Sun Prairie, WI | Weights and cardio 4-5 times/week for me. Been on that regimen for over seven years. Nothing fancy, just major muscle groups. I don't spend forever in the gym either. In your workouts, don't forget about lower body lifts. As you age, legs become even MORE important. Strong legs are important in chasing muskies too. I stand the entire time while casting. No butt seat, no chair, nothing. Don't need em. After 10 or 12 hours, yes I'm tired, but I couldn't do that w/o strong legs and a good cardio workout. I'll be 50 in 2008, Good Lord willin'. I get a kick out of some of the clowns who lift at my gym...all they ever do is upper body and they're disproportioned so much I have to keep from laughing in their face. They got these little skinny wimpy girl legs to go with a bulked up upper body. Funny lookin'!!!

Posts: 427 Location: Roseau | You get, I think there are 10 CD's. You can do the workouts at home. So far the most weight I use are 25 lbs dumbells and the bands. Coming from being a weight lifter and doing little cardio, mind set that was for wussies, this program really changes the way you will think about workouts. The workouts are hard to explain, many excersises and what is so extreme about it is there is no stopping for about 50 minutes. I started 5 weeks ago and have lost 13 lbs, even with the holiday snacking!! My strength has increased ALOT!! And if you think yoga is for women or is not that hard of a workout, give this a try and then decide!! Good luck in 2008!!

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | Hey Mike, I dont' know you, but I think you should edit your post to "fishing or musky partner"...I was reading it like you were gay until you mentioned your wife....hehehehe...that was funny. I'm with Steve, I heat my house on just wood...can you say $30 January gas bills with a gas clothes dryer....ice fishing and work keeps me going too. I think I am more out of shape in the Summer, but still the first day or 2 of ski fishing makes things sore.

Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | This may sound a bit funny, but I have a workout program for my PS2 called YourSelf Fitness. http://www.yourselffitness.com/ You feel a bit like a fairy doing the cardio stuff, but this thing is definitely a workout. If I could stay with it (lack of motivation when it comes to exercising) I would like like the Incredible Hulk. The P90X sounds like a similar routine, but I haven't really looked at it. Every day you do a different workout targetting a specific area. It really is a pretty cool little program for a gaming system. Like Fisher says, I thought Yoga was for wussies until I tried it on this game. Whew, a lot tougher than I thought.

Just started back lifting after a two year hiatus....sad to think of how much strength I have lost, but slowly it will come back. On a positive I did hit a 455lb squat today.

Posts: 20258 Location: oswego, il | I am back at the workout program since I hurt my back on halloween at work. Been doing it every day since the 5th of november and I was using a walker then! Lost 17lbs already. Doing alot of different excersizes from legs to core to upper body, all of it is important. It's not something I plan to ever get away from again. I got a chuckle out of the comment about dispraportion. There s a guy in therapy right now, he's all built up in the upper body and upper legs but my 10 year old has bigger calves. He's in with a knee problem go figure.

Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | Workouts are great. being former Army, I know what workouts can do (although, Military is a bit extreme). Staying active, getting plenty of sleep, and the right diet (ok, alcohol does not do anyone any favors, hehehehe). Lift more than the guy working next to you. Walk a little faster than the guy in front of you.

Posts: 50 Location: Central Wi. | I'm reading this while eating a can of pringles. Seriously, even a couple of miles on the treadmill 2 or 3 days a week is enough to keep a guy out of the cardiac ward. Seems the older I get the harder it is to keep the mid section at bay.
