Posts: 2 | Crankbaits, twitch baits... how many do you carry. Do you have multiple lures in the same water column, or one for each... or none? Do you carry them throughout the season? I have carried some all of the time but have only had success on shallow square lipped lures post spawn.

Posts: 1266 Location: Walker, MN | I carry a couple of dozen. Though when there's a good trolling bite, twice that many. I like crankbaits in the fall a lot. I often wonder how many muskies would be caught while casting crankbaits vs. all the folks throwing rubber. It's all about getting down to the fish's zone. More on crankbaits in my boat.

Posts: 20248 Location: oswego, il | It really depends on where I am going and what the water conditions are. I bring a variety especially if I haven't been to a particular body of water in awhile colors and depths. Let me give you an example. I fish a lake where I really like throwing a crane 105 and catch fish. One trip the fish were quite shallow.and the 105 was getting into the bottom and getting algae almost every cast. I put on a 104 and problem solved. Caught a 48.25" fish that I would not have had I not switched.

Posts: 59 | I own quite a few crankbaits, but I typically only bring a couple with me on any given trip that match the conditions I expect to be casting in. They rarely get used in my boat while casting, I prefer to use soft plastics to get down to that 5-20ft deep range. I'll change to lipped baits if I know fish are holding at those depths but simply don't want to eat the soft plastics, or I am casting to a bare rock reef and I want to bounce off the boulders. I own a ton of twitch baits, but I never end up using them, preferring many other methods to get fish that are moving around in that part of the water column while casting. Late fall trolling is a whole other ballgame, that's when the arsenal of depth raiders, jakes, headlocks etc come out Edited by Rob C 1/4/2021 11:00 PM

Posts: 576 Location: Germantown, WI | I usually have about 7-12 in the boat with me at any given time (usually like to have no more than 40 lures in the boat at a time.... so maybe 25% of my selection? I try to grab a few different colors , sizes, actions. I just have a lot of confidence in these kinds of lures. For me I would say in terms of # of casts in a season with different lures I probably go 1- crank baits ( love banging rocks and wood with my cranks. Most of time I’m casting too, very little trolling for me, except when I’m up in Canada and by day 7 my body is begging for a break...ha!) 2- plastics 3- buck tails 4- spinnerbaits 5- jerkbaits 6- top water But I’m trying to use more top water the last 2 years after watching all those Today’s Angler episodes with Lee Tauchen...... I just never have any luck with them.... it’s weird!!!! Edited by dward 1/4/2021 11:52 PM

Posts: 399 | Depends on season for me. I rarely have more than a couple with me on the boat . Two exceptions 1. Early in the season I usually emphasize smaller crank baits to twitch in shallow water 2. Late fall when I might troll large crank baits when its really cold

It's not about using all of them it's about picking one or two out of the bunch. Sometimes a foot deeper, less or more action can make all the difference as I shown in my example above and that was a lake that I have over 100 Muskies on.

Posts: 2 | Thanks for all the replies. Shallow Invader and smoker tackle are the two that have served me well post spawn. I have some depth raiders (regular, suspending and baby) .22 long, .22 short square, a crane, slammer twitch, cranky nitro. I will try and fish them with some more confidence this winter as rarely do I reach for them.

Posts: 414 Location: SW Ohio | My lure collection is not as large as some so all my lures go with me each time out. Amounts to one large Plano Big game box and a soft-side with several 3700 boxes. Everything from bass size up to Ernie's. I have a couple other boxes with large trolling cranks in the boat storage compartments. I predominately throw cranks on my home lake but have been casting more jerk and glide baits lately.

Posts: 2754 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | colinj8899 - 1/9/2021 6:16 PM ESOX Maniac what are the 3 baits hanging on the far right of your boat? Those are custom Beaver Slivinski's, actually all of them are Beaver Slivinski customs. Except for "The Turd" and the unpainted wood ones, all of them they are painted with phase shifting paint. They shift colors as the light angle changes while moving in the water. The wood grain ones also phase shift with the light angle striking the horizontal bars. The wood grain bars switch from light brown to dark brown to light brown..... Have fun! Al Edited by ESOX Maniac 1/10/2021 9:44 AM
