| What are some of your go to options to keep the sun from cooking your noggin? I'm not one to put on those face shield scarf thingies and I dont think a sombrero would be a good choice for casting. Is there a happy medium? |

| I wear the face thingies, they look dumb but are good for staying cool, but can fog glasses some, I also use a white cowboy hat so smaller than a sombrero but better coverage than a cap. |

| Tilley is the best alternative I have found to wearing a face scarf/buff. You can find different models that are lightweight and breathability, you can tighten them up in the wind and are good quality but a little pricey. That said, in my opinion they are still a distant second to wearing a face scarf as far as functionality and protection from sun. |

I'm getting into using the face shields, but I always carry SPF-50 sunscreen as well...
This way if I feel the shield is too hot, I can spray down, although I don't care for the oiliness of the sunscreens...

Location: Aurora | I find most of the neck gaiter, tubes, scarves and similar to be cooling rather than making me hotter.
I even wear the arm sleeves and when I slide those on i can feel the cool immediately.

Location: West Central WI | I didn't use one until a few years ago. I'm starting to deal with a few skin cancers so I take this seriously. If it's hot, I dip the scarf/gator in the water for a completely cool head until it dries and then repeat. For exposed areas of my nose, cheeks, ears, etc, I use SPF 50. A good wide brim hat is good if you can't deal with the scarf, but do try to get used to it. There are many varied hat designs out there. |

Location: New Carlisle, IN | Straw hats work awesome. I just got an AFTCO straw hat and used a Salt Armour one last year. You get a bunch of face shields when your order a hat from Salt Armour. I highly recommend them. |

| Does anyone have a source for a face shield - buff for fat heads (7-3/4 size)? I've tried many brands and they all feel so tight I just can't wear them. I now use a Cabelas long sleeve sun hoodie - hood up - with a long brim flats cap but would prefer find a buff that might fit my fat noggin.

| I agree with someone above, if there is the slightest breeze the buffs are actually cooler than without them. Only time they are hotter is flat calm |

Location: Waukee, IA | I wear a neck gaiter/buff and a narrow profile straw cowboy hat (for ease of casting). The bluffs are a pain in the corn-hole, but they keep the sun off of your neck and can be wetted with lake water for cooling on hot days. |

| I use a sunscarf from Sims, think it called a sungaitor, it have tiny holes in the mouth area that makes breathing feel more natural, and are a better shape than just the straight tubes. |

| I use the Simm's Sun Gaiter as well. It is the only one I have found for me that works well and does not fog up glasses. Check out Hook and Tackle Hat's, they are found in many saltwater tackle shops. I use this one and it works great...

| Here is what I use. It is a baseball cap with a hanging neck scarf in the back. It has the added bonus of protecting you fairly well from accidental flying hooks.

| I got cancer this year and they removed a golf ball sized melanoma out of my left cheek. .so yeah...use a face shield. I look like a ninja now. Simms solarflex hoodies are expensive but it’s way more in medical fees. 100% percent because my time on the water and lack of caring how much sun I got. Sun gloves, full sleeves, super light pants. |
