Location: MN | Minn Kota just released news of their new trolling motor, the Ultrex. It is a cable steer-style motor with the capabilities of i-Pilot and i-Pilot Link, including spot lock and auto pilot. It comes with a Fortrex-like scissor mount and a brand new foot pedal that is referred to having "power steering." I think a lot of us have been waiting for this style of trolling motor!

$2,099.00 was what i saw on a quick google so i suppose the maxxum will continue in the line-up.
question ... i suppose in order for the spot-lock feature to work you would need to have it connected to your gps?

Location: MN | Standard i-pilot is a stand-alone feature with the motor (including spot lock) and does not require being attached to a depth finder. However, i-pilot Link links directly to a Humminbird unit to provide some additional features like follow the contour, in addition to the standard i-pilot features.
Based on the video, it looks like there is an upgraded spot lock that will be coming with the new version of i-pilot and i-pilot link too. |

Based on the video, it looks like there is an upgraded spot lock that will be coming with the new version of i-pilot and i-pilot link too.
Will features like follow the contour still work on the Ultrex - with older HB models like 998?? 998's are compatible with Terrova and Ulterra... just hoping Ultrex too.

Location: MN | I-pilot link on the Ultrex will be compatible with Ethernet capable Humminbird units, as I-pilot link was before. I-pilot will continue to be an independent feature of the motor that does not require any depth finder to use |

Location: MN | Spot Lock and GPS navigation of i-Pilot is wildly accurate- Within about 3ft hold under the conditions that I tested, but often holding tighter than that. |

Location: MN | These are the "mounting considerations" for the heading sensor, which led me to place it in front of the console. Easy access via the gunnel, clear line of sight and lack of metal objects nearby.
a.The Heading Sensor contains a compass that detects a
magnetic field. Do not install the Heading Sensor near
ferrous metals or wires that handle large currents, such
as batteries or power cables.
b. Mount the Heading Sensor in an area that has a clear
line of communication with the head of the motor that is installed with a Bluetooth compatible i-Pilot or i-Pilot Link system
for optimum performance.
c. Make sure the area under the mounting location is level and is clear to drill holes and installation hardware will not damage existing components below the mounting surface.

I think I'm going to mount mine in front of the drivers console as well, might try double sided tape or silicone as I'm tired of drilling holes in my glass for pucks that become obsolete over time. Can't wait to try the motor out, it's the one I've been waiting for(mix of cable drive and electric steer functionality) |

| I can't find any reference as to whether it matters how far away from the trolling motor it needs to be. As in can I put it on my front deck next to the locators on the left side or does it need to be starboard on need to be "x" number of feet from the trolling motor? |

| I would put it close to the unit myself. May work better on "jog feature" or for follow the contour applications good idea tho maybe try talking to minnkota service tech. |

Line of sight it correct and the rule of thumb to be used. I would not mount it nest to item that would prevent the line of sight for the Bluetooth signal to reliably communicate with the trolling motor head. |
