WHEN YOU DO REPAINTS, DO YOU PAINT OVER THE EXISTING EPOXY/CLEAR COAT?

I will scuff sand and paint over yes, but this particular bait was an unpainted Tuff I did for a customer.

Two questions. Do you use etex when you repaint lures or do you just clear them. I typically clear them with auto clear for fear of throwing off the action.
Secondly, I am currently doing custom crane baits for a local shop. These come primed and coated with etex. I'm doing about a hundred and Tryed to speed up the prep by using a hopper style sandblast gun to scuff up the etex. Seams to work good. Do you see any issues with this.

Andy,

First, I use etex...if it is a lure which I feel the weight of etex might compromise the action, I simply apply the etex on thinner. I haven't ran into any issues with any re-paints using etex yet.

Second, whatever works for you...I think the sandblast idea is a great one to speed up the process as long as it doesn't mar up the surface of the lures too much....The whole idea of the scuffing is to rough up the surface a bit allowing your paint to adhere better, I'm sure you know.

Thanks for the compliments...

Sweet paint jobs. I like the perch & the repaint. Though I think there's a little too much red on the repaint.

Thanks for the info Paul. My worst fear when painting for people is that the paint won't hold up so I spend a lot of time prepping. Never thought to try the sand blaster but it worked really well. I was careful on sharper corners so as to not burn through the etex but the little hopper style blaster isn't really aggressive. I cleaned them off and quickly scuffed them by hand. So far so good.

Thanks again. You really are the best.
