Posts: 7115 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Thinking about having a crankbait rod (to throw depthraiders, cisco kids, maybe spinnerbaits, tail prop topwaters, etc.) made by Frank Bottiliergi (because I am an insufferable rod snob, sorry) and thinking about a blank to have it made on. I really like the Diamond Backs I have now, but not sure the blanks are the same and/or still sold anymore? Suggestions?

Posts: 4342 Location: Smith Creek | I love the posters that completely disregard the original question. Have Frank use a Predator Heavy, extend a Lip Stick (4M79HMF) or 4M86MHF.

Posts: 678 Location: Twin Cities, MN | Diamonback blanks like the ones you maybe have now, are no longer available. The old diamonback's were awesome blanks that Thorne Bros used to make some sweet rods out of. I still have one that is a staple in my boat. They were light, great rods that have stood the test of time. Too bad the manufacturer changed where the how they wrere bulit, or I would have bought another. I picked up a predator heavy last year which I really like for throwing bucktails and topwaters along with the occasional crankbait. Good luck.

Posts: 756 | Predator.... I would get an H and considering trimming two inches off the tip. I love the XH but the H is lighter and it does not sound like you are looking for a Rubber Slinging Cannon so I would go with an H. I have over 50 fish on my H; its the msot used rod in my boat June-September.... And to confirm on the Diamond Backs....Made in China crap now...used to be awesome...

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | My personal preferences would be TI XH or Predator H...were you looking for one suggestion? LOL I know my suggestions are at the opposite ends of the spectrum as far as price. But those TI blanks make some sweet crankbait blanks. Talk to Frank about your preferences and he'll recommend the best blank for you. That's what you pay him for! jeremy

| Probably too much weight put on the blanks, they are all pretty good. The builder is the important part if you want a custom rod that caters to what you are looking to accomplish. Find the right builder and you will have the right rod for what you are looking to do. BR | |||

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | What do you use now? I like a MH for crankbaits like you described. You might really like the LT 86 MHF.

Currently I'm using an 8'6" XH Lamiglas. Great rod for long casts, really too light for setting the hook or fighting fish. And a touch on the heavy side.

Posts: 995 | if you want something with a heavier backbone but not too stiff maybe look into the big nasty blank. I fish with a big nasty now and love it for throwing grandmas and jakes. Guys have also recommended the predator H blank with 2" off the tip but I couldn't tell you from experience. I had a H predator and it was just too soft for my preference.

One of my mains is an 8'6" Lamiglas Paul Hartman and I really dig it for sb's & cranks. Must be a different blank ~shrug~
