| I fished it Wednesday and have not been able to get it to collapse. I tried tapping it firmly on the ground and I can't twist at all. I tried warming it up a bit with a blow dryer thinking that might help but nothing. I've been fishing with these rods for a couple of years and this is a first.
Although it is not ideal for me, I'd rather have it locked open than bust it trying to collapse it.
Any tips? |

Location: Hayward, WI | Never had to do it but I think with the ice trick I would try icing the blank near the ferrule and at the same time use a hair dryer - attempting to warm up the ferrule the rod slides into.

Location: Land of the Musky | FYI-I had one a customer sent back to me and I had it back in within 5 seconds. You may need to just go out on your sidewalk and give it a good hit on the cement. Also, when you pull a telescopic rod out, don't pull it out with all the force you have. They lock in with just a little force. The harder you pull it out, the more it will lock in to place. Just about 5lbs of force and you will have it locked in just right. |

That's good to hear. I just received a rod. When I extended it for the first time, I saw how easy it is to lock it in with hardly any pressure at all. Since I have never had a telescopic rod before, I felt I should be careful in extending it. It seems really easy to lock it in place. I'm impressed.
Looking forward to using the Tackle Industries 9' xh telescopic rod. |

| I just took it outside and hit it with everything I have. I can't believe it didn't break. It didn't budge but my Tranx came flying off. Maybe I do need some time at the gym 
With the exception of a couple back-ups, all my rods are telescoping. I've had them freeze open but they are always fine once the ice melts. |

| I currently have two that were stuck at the end of the season. I got them back in, but now I can not get them to come back out unless I put the handle in a vise (very delicately!) and twist/pull on them. I've put lube on them and it does not seem to help. One rod is 2 yrs old, the other just one season. Any advice James? |

| Just to close this thread, I managed to break the rod and it still didn't collapse. I may cut it open to see if I can figure out why it is stuck. |

| i be curious if anyone has tried an evaporative like isopropyl. Mine only ever seem to like to stick due to moisture.
would something like a graphite lube help prevent it? |

Location: Smith Creek | I've seen vapor lock or friction lock on tip over butt ferrules that couldn't be freed, I've never, in the several dozen times I've encountered them, been unable to free a telescoping rod after leaving it in a walk in freezer overnight. |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | If you are where there is no snow your garden hose might still be hooked up try to flush it out. If you hit it hard enough to dislodge the reel you have to have grit, sand, or small rock in there. I have a pile of tele rods and have never had an issue. |

| I would try the lubricant again and let it soak down in for a while. Maybe try liquid wrench if you have any, that stuff is great for loosening up just about anything. |

| My cousin locked up two Okumas, one almost new and one brand new, both clean. I'm still running mine without a problem (3 years old). He got mad because it would collapse on him like twice in a 12hr day (from the weight of a dawg pushing back) so he'd pull it out hard and that would be that, nothing could collapse it again. He broke the reel seat on one trying to bang it on the ground. I was going to recomend removing the reel first but than seen you already popped it off.
In my opinion while they are great and I'm planning to buy another this year, you must be extremely careful to not over extend them or it could be game over. |
