Posts: 906 Location: Canada | I have an 8' Avid (heavy) that I too love. It would/could only be replaced by split grip Sling Blade for me, the 8' LT (top and tail) is only a medium heavy and that would probably be the rod St.Croix would replace the Avid with.

Posts: 2361 | The replies here are a little harsh I think. I can understand somebody really liking a certain model of rod, and an 8 foot Avid shouldn't be unattainable, and a lot easier to find than a good fishing friend, imo. Keep looking Cast4, and good luck. Edited by firstsixfeet 11/21/2010 4:18 PM

Posts: 865 | Thanks firstsixfeet, He has plenty of rods but the 8 foot Avid rod is one of his favorite for the type of lures he uses....It's not like he is jumping up and down crying.... I offered him a new tournament rod, but he said he does not think it would work for him..I told him I would try and get him one............Thanks for understanding

I'd be interested in a LT split grip 8'6" Sling Blade if he's gotta have another Avid that bad. I fully understand as I too as mentioned earlier love my Avid but it doesn't mean the end of the world to me if it were replaced by another worthy rod I feel would replace that rod, at no cost to me.

Posts: 2361 | Cast4, If there is a replacement waranty with the AVid, get it in and replace it and use it as trade fodder to get another Avid, sounds like CU3 might be wedgeable.

Posts: 422 | I broke a friend's rod by accident the day he put me on my personal best, and it wasn't an expensive rod at all, but I sent it back to Daiwa for him and they sent one back at no charge. (amazing customer service). If they wouldn't have done that, I still would have bought him something to replace it even though he said don't worry about it. Good luck Cast4, I understand.

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | What I was getting at is that is that most all the 8'ers broke. You broke it so it's cool that you're replacing it, but your buddy's being a dink IMOP if he's putting you through the ringer to exactly replace a rod that's not only known for blowing up that's also been obsoleted even though you've offered to upgrade him. Either way send that broken one back to St.Croix and get the blue replacement.

Posts: 865 | Strange, but everyone I emailed and spoke to said that the 8 foot Avids are absolutely great rods and did in fact not break.....But people purposely broke the rods to get the newer Blue Tourney series rods..... This rod was stepped on by me, a 242 pounds of solid Muscle Musky Fishermen....(OK maybe not solid)...I think just about any rod out there would have done the same........... I'm Still Looking.............Thanks to everyone , Mike Edited by cast4musky 11/23/2010 3:36 AM

Posts: 1141 Location: NorthCentral WI | My buddy hooked a rod I had in the holder last year and casted it into the lake. I was peeed because that too was one of my favorite rods. He offered $200 for the set up and I took it. Since found a new rod and reel myself and don't miss it anymore. I would suggest giving him the money for the value of the rod and letting him find something that "will work for him" if he's so picky.

Posts: 32 | I have at least 1 maybe 2 of those rods. I will have to check. I also love that rod especially for double 10's. I have since used the split grip 8'6" Legend and that rod works great. If I have 2 and I will check tonight I would maybe consider selling one. I understand your partners pain! When something works it is hard to switch. I will send a PM with my phone number. Posts: 908 Location: South-Central PA | cast4muskie, A true friend would do what you are doing and replace the rod. I'm glad to hear that you're not taking the bad advice that's some are giving. I wonder how many of those guys would feel differently if someone accidentally broke one of their rods... I certainly would not want someone in my boat that would think nothing of breaking one of my rods and not even offer to replace it. As a custom rod builder, I have access to some Avid muskie blanks (there are a few around even though they've been discontinued). Shoot me a pm if you're interested. jeremy

Posts: 50 | I guess my first response was a little bit hard. I did not know that there is not an 8' H LT. All this talk of a split grip SlingBlade is making me wet.

Posts: 196 | I'm not for sure if they would have one, but when I called St. Croix recently, they told me that there is a St. Croix store there in park falls that has used, new, and discontinued rods. If all else fails, I would give them a call. As for all of the opinions that were posted on here, well, all of them would make sense to me except for the find a new fishing buddy. Good fishing buddies are hard to come by and the fact that cast is trying to do the right thing is great. I do however sort of understand what people are getting at, that the guy offered to buy him a better rod as a replacement. I would have just taken the new legend and been happy that my buddy took care of the situation, and then if I really wanted my old rod back, I would try to trade the new rod for the one I wanted rather than make him feel even worse. Anyway, the situation is between those two guys, so just help the guy out that is doing the right thing instead of criticizing him. As for what someone else said, I would go ahead and send the avid back because I think if you break the rod st. croix will replace it for like $50. Therefore you could sell the replacement rod to recoop some of the cost. Good luck on finding the rod you need!
