THE HELLKAT SHOCK BAITS ARE NOW AVAILABLE AT SMOKEYS MUSKY SHOP. HERE IS A QUICK PIC OF WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE. A DAWG STYLE BAIT WHICH I PREFER TO FINNESE LIKE A JERK BAIT. THEY ARE AVAILABLE WITH CORK OR LEAD. WEIGHT IS ABOUT 7 1/4 OZ. CAN WORK THE CORK ON THE SURFACE, OR PULL DOWN SUBSURFACE. WITH THE LEAD I'D SAY 4 - 12 FOOT IS REALISTIC FOR WORKING DEPTH. THERE IS SOME AWESOME COLORS TO CHOOSE FROM...VERY COOL LOOKIN!!! MADE RIGHT HERE IN A SUBURB OF MILWAUKEE WISCONSIN.

Yes, Mota. When I first started using the bait it reminded me of a shark, so I named it sharkie...But the maker called it the Hellkat.

Like that copper one! Good color! Bet they have a nice glide with they wide belly and not much "head" to them. Will have to pick a few up for my swimbait collection.

Who makes em? Are they planning a website or can we only get them from Smokeys? I am also in a suburb of Milwaukee are they willing to sell direct? I gotta have a few. Thanks for any info.

A rod; Thanks for asking. The only shop in the south that is handling them is Smokeys. The other shop they are available is the makers bait shop in Tomahawk where Rod Umlauf has his art studio. I'd get there asap. Not sure how long they will last. There is about 40 baits in smokeys. There is no mail order currently. Sorry.

Mota ; Here is a pic of the baits you are asking about.
Last week in Canada the bait was HOT with all the cool weather and cold fronts canada is dishing out right now. Got 4 fish last week from 37-49 5/8" plus several 36- 40" pike.

I am curious about the cork one, you said the lead one runs 4-12 feet but the other one has cork, how deep does that one run? With a flat belly does it roll side to side on a drop?

Todd; My preference is the cork Hellkat. Yes; sometimes the lead weighted one will sometimes side down. To cure that, I tend to bend internal wire slightly upward to cause the bait a more flat body fall.

The cork helps with a flatter, more slowing horizontal fall, kind of like a dying bait fish. You need to pull cork Hellkat down to its running depth. 1 to 5 ft. If you work with short pulls, the bait tends to ride high in the water column. When the cork Hellkat decends, the bait also will do a slight turn or basically a 180 degree turn or a spiraling free fall...Pretty Cool

I bought a couple last year. Nice baits. I prefer the cork for working over shallow rocks, ESP at night.

They smell a little funky, but the fish dont mind

Hellkat NOW has a smaller brother, a mid size Hellkat...full size center, smaller versions, sides...about the size of a regular dawg.

Cork and weighted available.
