Location: Verona, WI | I am going to be on vacation in Land o Lakes during the first two weeks of September and would like to take my son to a place where he has a chance at a musky but if not there are pike and bass. I would prefer a lake where the muskies don't get very big as I want him to be able to handle them if he hooked one.
Boy if only Tiger Cat was in Vilas. Thanks in advance.

Location: Bloomington, IL | Well, there are a TON of musky lakes in Vilas. For a start, check here:

Look at the Class A1 and A2 waters. I would suggest finding a lake close to where you are going to be, and that has a ramp if you are going to have a boat with you.
Then, once you have found a lake or two that you want to try, check here to see if they have a map:

Location: Hopefully on the water | Here are few lakes in the Land O' area that should provide some action for what you are looking for. Palmer/Tenderfoot, Ballard, Wildcat. Those would be my top three for getting some action in the area. All of these lakes are within about 30-45 minutes from Land O'. The size of the fish generally are not that big but there is almost always action from these lakes. As fas as baits stick with the top waters, suicks and smaller bucktails. September is usually pretty good up there. Good luck fishing. |

| Wildcat, Wildcat, and then Wildcat.. It's about 25 minutes from Land O and very easy to find. Take Hwy "B" to the west out of Land O lakes for approximitly 20 miles then take How "M" south 3 or 4 miles and you'll see the boatlanding sign on your right. Fish the bay infront of the landing as well as around all the islands and off the breaks. You'll have plenty of action any time of the day or nite.

| Everyone's forgetting about the best Musky Lake in Vilas county......."LAKE X". JK, I know people who have fished Wildcat and had plenty of action. You should probably do good there in Sept. |

| Manitowish Chain. You can fish 10 lakes without having to launch a boat. Island, Spyder, Manitowish, Wild Rice, Clear, Rest, Alder, Little Star, Stone and Fawn all produce Esox.
Landed my PB today; a fat, healthy 41". Had 4 other follows today. We have been up for 4 days, so far we have had 6 follows, 1 topwater strike, and slime in the boat. Not to mention, 6 nice wallies on Sat am, a boatload of bass and pannies.
Have fished Wildcat much in the past and it is great also.

| Shane, if you want non-stop bass action, take your son to Sylvania up in Watersmeet. Those lakes are all catch and release and they don't allow outboard motors. A canoe is your best bet up there. |

Location: Tinley Park. Fish Cen IL. Bass & Vilas Cty.Muskie | High Lake is a real good Muskie Lake. Launch is right on B -15 miles west of Land O Lakes. Palmer would be second and then Wildcat . Fish them all and bring the right tools for fast release.

| Cisco based lakes would be the last ones I would go to. Muskies go deep chasing them, and the giant ones come out of cisco lakes. Don't go to Crab either. You're going to wreck your boat if you don't know the lake. I would recommend Lac View Desert. |

| LVD just isn't what it use to be, so i'll mention again if your main goal is to take your son to a lake where he has a superb shot at getting a musky Wildcat is the place, we've had 12 fish days out there in our younger years! Seen fish up to the mid 40's. Not too many but there's some in there. And dont overlook Big Kitten which is connected to Wildcat through a very small but very navigable channel. Lure suggestions i'd throw perch baby shallow raiders and perch colored baby depthraiders along with any of your favorite bucktails or topwaters. Let us know how you do.

Location: Burlington, WI | Don't fish Ballard. In WI outdoor news they said that whole chain froze out last yerar just like it had 15 years or so ago. I don't think it would be worth it. If someone else read this back me up. |

| There have been 6 and 7 fish days on Irvine this year(best I had was a 3 fish day) which is connected to Ballard by a couple large culverts. There is still plenty of muskies in those lakes........ |

Location: minocqua, wi. | based on this thread and having kids of my own who love to fish i spent last saturday on wildcat ... my opinion after a full day on the water is that it was a good recommendation ... shoot me a pm if you'd like or call me at 715.493.7848 and i'll let you know what i found as far as where to fish ...
my fifth cast i think brought the first fish out ... it got better from there. |
