Posts: 4266 | First of all, thank you all for your well wishes and your patience as the opener gets closer. All Perkettes, Crappies, Chromes, and Megaturds are ready. So if you ordered something and want it for the opener, get the checks in the mail. I spent most of the morning boxing up lures for guys that have paid already. So if you sent me payment, your lures are going out Monday morning, unless you got to me before my unscheduled work stoppage, then you should have them by now. Here is the unveiling of the new Megaturd. No more brass hangers or other gizmos to use to get that flaptail working. Polish ingenuity and a simple bead chain with a split ring on either end gets the blade turning fast and exiting the water more often on the retrieve. And with it back a little further from the body, each time it does kick out, it pulls the tail of the lure to the side with it giving the lure a rocking motion that flashes the scales on the side. Blunt nose pushes through the water causing a wake because the lure has been belly weighted to plow through the water, not ride high on top of it. Keep your rod tip low, and reel just fast enough to get the blade to kick out. If it spins, you are reeling too fast. This is one great figure 8ing muskiefirster I tell ya. Pull it through the straight aways and go high in the corners and you'll get a gurgle out of it that will drive followers nuts. I've been pulling it all the way out of the water sometimes so it looks like something jumping and then landing in the water again. 4/0 hook in the front and 3/0 hook in the back and 7" of wooden body make it one big turd. Remember, you saw the bead chain connection here first, at muskiefirst. I have a feeling that I'll be making more of these. If you thought flaptails were boring to use and never really drew much of a response, I think that you just might change your mind when you see this thing pushing a wall of water your way. Of course it doesn't mean anything until the king of the turds gives it his nod of approval. So I'll have to wait and see what Slamrs Dad has to say. I can't call him dad anymore. Now we're brothers. Posts: 4266 | Here's the latest from yesterday. A guy ordered a Bluegill. I cringed. How the hell do you copy something that looks like that? I took out books, pictures.....if I could have caught one, I'd have taken it along. Well here's what I came up with, and it doesn't have any E-Tex on it, so it's only going to look better. Posts: 4266 | Yeah, like the Black Perch pattern. Black lure with gold scale bars on the side instead of the other way around. I've done OK painting a Cisco with a black belly instead of a white one, or a dark blue. They should be able to see it easier from underneath, but on the snap and glide, they still get the flash of the belly roll. I thought that the fish swimming belly up were for the eagles and gulls. I still think that you have to have some contrast for the fish to see the lure and draw it's attention and hold it. Like giant eyes too. When I start doing more Perkas, they have a much bigger profile, I am going to try to highlight around every eye and see what kind of results I get.....depending on the pattern. I even broke out the old color wheel to see what color is the best contrast for the color that I'm using. I have a link to a computer generated color wheel that is freaking awesome. I'll see if I can post it here. Here are some old, original Undertakers that I did for a guy today. Kind of hard to use big eyes on such a small lure.
