| Where do you get your wood lure bodies and what do you pay for them? Carving wood baits yourself is great, but if you're going to make a few of the same original design you'd need to have it duplicated. What are you guys doing for sources of wood and bodies? |

Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | I do all my own wood working. It's alot of fun, until you get to blank #200 or so. Eventually, I'd like to farm out my woodworking, so I have more time during the summer to actually fish. lol. I do all of my woodworking in the summer, because my garage is un-heated.
I'm using scrap poplar, that I get from a pallet company. If it is not wide enough for them to make a decent slat with, it be mine. Depending on the type of wood you will be using, there are cheap sources everywhere. For example, if you were to use oak, a cabinet company might sell you scrap wood that is just too small for them to deal with. |

| us at hawgseekers make all our own stuff out select pine planks, everyhing is done by hand on all our models(hooking painting buffing traced on wood and bandsawing them) no cad programs or anyhting , everything by hands. we've got i down between 4 of us we had to do 459 in one week. Lot of hours but we did it |

| You guys at Hawgseekers make some great stuff too! I am very happy with the batch of lures I just ordered from you. If you haven't tried a jointed hawg boss yet guys you need to, cool topwater bait!!

| You guys need to find someone with a laser, I run one at work and do a few baits here and there on the side when were slow, all I can say is I can cut a bait out in 5 seconds. seriously! exact shape everytime. Its fun to sit and program my own stuff but could never do it full time. work would probably want a cut out of sales 
our laser cuts steel, wood any thickness up to 2" maybe a little more, and plexi glass also. I also do a lot of fish porn etching with it. I made my own pool table light. man the stuff I get away with at work  |

Location: Belgium | I've made over a thousand baits by now but if you are looking for consistency, try a commercial firm that does woodwork. They can produce as many baits as you want that look 100% alike. But remember wooden baits will never have the same consistency when it comes to density. Depending on how close the wood was to the core of the tree trunk, the wooden bait wil lbe denser (close to the core) or lighter (closer to the chest of the tree)
The charm of handmade baits is that not one bait is the same. That doesn't mean they won't work as well as the other but that you need to hand tune them all. I think that's worth the effort by a long shot!

| are there any big firm places in WI that you know of that can make the exact shape of your bait in numbers? I wouldn't mind getting a few of my crankbaits all done in the same manner. Sounds interesting |

| What do most of you guys that have them cut elsewhere usually pay per blank?
Just wondering what the ballpark is for this, I could ask my general manager and boss, but I don't know if they'd go for it, it all depends on what the value of having exact cutouts everytime by a laser is worth to people. The process is very quick, we are talking 5 seconds per blank, but like I said Id need to know how much and all around fee guys pay to have them sawed out, routed too just to make things interesting.
Our company makes cutting dies for corrugation. This would be extra work for when we are slow, usually in the winter, when everyone is cranking out baits.

| i also make my own bodies but i just started i use heavy dowel from a hardware store made a suick look alike kinda lure but alterd it a little. |

| cutting your own is cheaper once you have done the initial outlay. the problem is getting good consistent lumber. |

Location: nationwide | Quite a few lure manufacturers use Zelazowski Wood Products out of Antigo Wisconsin. I am not sure if my spelling is correct.
For the small quantities of lures I make I use a duplicator on my lathe.

| I 2nd Zelazowski. I'm in the process of talking with them now about getting my blanks made there. Small quantities are fine by hand, but gets real old after awhile. My blanks are $2.50-$3 depending on quantity, but alot of extra tooling is required to get what I want.
