| I’m looking to get a new set of boards! I’m between either the church tackle brand, or the yellow bird brand. I was leaning towards the church tackle boards, but was concerned about the styrofoam being exposed on the back side. Do you guys have any good or bad experiences with either? Thanks for any imput! |

Location: Wisconsin | I run Church Boards because I don't need to worry about losing the board when trolling in big water and I find them easier to use when running solo. For Muskies I do upgrade the front release to the Offshore OR-18 snapper because it's adjustable tension. So, I can adjust when I'm running walleye gear and then Muskie gear. Never had one problem even running Headlocks up to 5mph. Plus, the one style of walleye board has adjustable weight as well. |

| Bret Alexander showed me how to use the Mid Size walleye boards trolling for Muskie. Just 2 wraps around each clip before securing in the clasp and you're not going to lose the board.
Tried it, works great!
Now, do it with gloves on, with snow, solo with multiple lines out! That's a skill I'm still working on.

Location: Northern Illinois | Never lost an Offshore board while trolling have hundreds if not thousands of hours on the Offshore boards. All I do is change out the front clip to an OR18 and make sure the rear clip is an OR16 (has a small dowel pin keeps board from falling off). I think the Offshore boards run better then the church tackle ones. Also the Offshore board also has an adjustable weight.
I'd like to see you run a Headlock/ Mattlock on a standard walleye board lol they do not run true. That's what the Mag boards are for. |

| Dont understand wrapping the line on other boards and using offshore products on less inferior boards. Just buy the off shore mag boards and forget it. |

Would add that the Magnum Offshore do a better job than the Magnum Church... I've tested them out against each other. They got it right with the Magnum Offshore, pretty much all I run these days. |

Location: Northern Illinois | Bret and the boys out on the bay wrap the line on the smaller Offshore boards because most of the time it is very rough seas and even though they have upgraded the clips the braid still slips, I do also double wrap my boards on the bay or in any rough seas no slippage. |

| some guys are using lil planer boards whit lure way too big.if you use a planer and the lure is just 5 feet from the boats then what's the advantage ? lil board plus speed and big lure=useless |

Even when modified the 44s will not perform as well as the Mags. I bought the Church TX44 when they first came out and modified them with the Offshore OR18 and OR16 releases, but still was never very impressed with the performance of the TX44, even versus just a standard Offshore. When the Offshore Pro Mags came out I was kind of hesitant based on that experience, but a good friend told me they were the nuts, so I bought a set and proceeded to pit them side-by-side against the modified TX44, and standard Offshore. The Offshore Pro Mag was the clear winner for distance away from the boat.

The main reason for them being an issue for us slipping was because the pads would get worn out on the OR16 and/or OR18 clip release pretty fast with braid. Usually it was just a matter of tightening the Phillips head screw a touch and/or swapping out the OR16 clip in the boat to get things tight again.
I remember having to be more vigilant with replacing pads back when I still used braid, and the braid definitely wears a groove in the OR16 dowel pin faster than it does with monofilament. However, I never felt like I needed to wrap with Offshore, probably because I stayed on top of the maintenance. Tip: Although slippage is almost a non-issue with mono now, I still look at the LC at the board after bringing the board into the boat to check possible slippage. When you set it at 20' and it comes back at 18-19', it's time to do a little maintenance, those pads don't last forever.
