My wife is going to get me a new rod for my b-day. I want to stick with st croix as i've had good luck with them. Currently have an 8ft st croix premier MH, and a 9ft St Croix XXH. Was thinking of getting a legend tournament. I love my 8ft st croix. I throw lots of blades mostly smaller. What St croix rod would u suggest i add to my collection.

Are the legend extremes worth the extra $$?

Sling Blade. Not even close. Great for bucktails, cranks, topwater and small rubber.

It will be stiffer than the Long Ranger and a little more of a "do it all" kind of rod.

Oh, and yes, the Legends are worth it. Warranty alone is worth it. I've found them to be a lot lighter but just as powerful as their premier counterparts.

Legends are very much worth the money! Sling blade is a good option for your particular use although my answer for almost everything is the Big Nasty, lol. You'll enjoy it either way.

I love my big nasty, for medium to big blades, and medium rubber. It is a great rod, I just upgraded to a Legend Extreme 9 ft MH for smaller blades. The extremes are so light it is unbelievable. I would consider the Nasty over the Sling blade, I like the extra length.

SCL Long Ranger will whip small buck tails a country mile. I can't put that rod down. Like it so much I bought another.

You said " I throw lots of blades mostly smaller".  The rod you want is the Long Ranger.  Slingblades and big nastys were not designed for smaller blades.

Irish- What do you think of the premier MH you have now? What baits are you throwing with it? Is that just right, too soft for what you want to throw? Is this rod replacing the premier? That will help determine which LT rod is best for you.

The Big Nasty and Sling Blade are both great but in my opinion the big nasty's tip gave too much in the 8 on bigger blades. I prefer it for throwing rubber. The Sling Blade is my preferred blade rod and works great for blades big and small.

I like my Premier MH, i'm not replacing just looking for another rod for my aresenal. I decided on the big nasty. as i thought that is an area that i could have added to. I now have a MH, H and XXH rod. If i throw smaller blades i'll continue to use the current Premier as that seems to be working.

Thank you for the info and the link

Good choice! I was thinking Nasty or Slingblade as you already had the MH premier.
** Now you will have another problem! You will want to get more LT's!!!

Hmm...

I think it's quite opposite actually and the sling blade is the one that gives too much and slows you down in the 8.

it's not even close really...I'm wondering whether you tried a different rod other than a 9' Big Nasty.

It was definitely a 9' big nasty. I guess there's the oddity of personal preferences haha. Still loved the rod, just ended up preferring the sling blade for my main blade rod. Maybe I'll have to give the Big Nasty a second chance this season to see if my mind changes.

You will be very happy with it. I can launch single 8 bucktails no prob with the Nasty.

you got a mh in the premier which is not the exactly same as a long ranger , similar really only in bait weight designation but nicely satisfies that bait range requirement, a fine blank for light to med baits,if you primarily fish single 8's-9-10's blades mixing it up a bit with the occassional bigger bait i'd go with the slingblade,an awesome alround blank and more a bit forgiving than the heavier blanks. i see alot of big fish at boatside lost because of too stiff rods,no stretch line, and ball peened hammered tight drags. ok guerilla fighting 40-48" fish but once you get up and 50+ it's a diff game except for those expereinced in doing so and bit of forgiveness and a quick thumb.
if you're 75%+ rippn alot of big minnow baits, pitching pounders and medusa's,and near 100%burning 10's and bigger then the nasty is it. i got a 9' elite h last fall,i know,i know$ $$! ! ! but to be honest after using it one full day i completly forgot about writing the check.so quick, fast, and light with just a touch less than the nasty and more than the sling, i love my nasty and awesome blank but now it seems like a club. shes the medusa/dawg rod now.
