Location: NE PA | The saltist continually comes up in conversation for throwing big blades, and I know that the 5.1 lexa is good for blades as well. how does the 6.3 do for turning blades? I like the saltist's IPT (6:1-35") and liken the 6.3 lexa to it in that regard. would the 6.3 be a better reel for blades, or should I stick with the 5.1? I have thrown blades with the saltist and if the 6.3 lexa would require the same effort I may go this route. Thoughts? |

| just had a similar conversation with a Diawa rep at the MN sportsman's show. He mentioned to me that using the 6.3 will have plenty of power to pull double 10's all day. i am even debating between the 7.1 and the 6.3. simply to protect the life of the reel i am leaning towards 6.3. it comes down to how often you fish and how long you expect the reel to last. you will get plenty of power, and speed (33") out of a 6.3 |

| Can anybody tell my why doesn't the 6:3 lexa come with a power handle? I know the 5:1 and the 7:l come with the power handle. I really like the lexa, just wish I know how they're going to hold up over time. Might have to try one out! |

37.7 IPC. I'd be curious to see if angler or gears would stand up to big doubles on the hyper speed reel. |

| The standard paddle handles on the 400 lexa is almost identical in size as the paddle handle...so it is not necessary. I used the 6.3 all last year on a 300 and it was great...So now the 400 with more line retrieve will be Great....I am Sure... and it comes in a lefty OMG...... |

I doubt the 7:1 gear teeth would stand up to double tens. PIKEMASTER would be the final word on this.
The 7 gears are great at picking up slack line fast. I would not use it for any blades, maybe small mepps.
The 6 gears I think is max out with 8 blades but guys use them for 10's, after a year the reels sounds like a coffee grinder. |

That's what I was afraid you would say. Do know anything about Avet reels, particularly the JX 6.0:1 MC? I am just trying to explore all possible options, and there are few if any out there.

Avet reels have S.Steel gears so they are loud and not smooth, and with no line guide they are a handfull to cast. Like I said I don't follow Left hand reels.
With so many Right hand reels out there just switch ???? |

| Unfortunately, the bones on my left forearm are fused together before my wrist. Because of this, my wrist doesn't turn, and I can't hold the rod with that hand. If I could, I would just for Twin Tens although it would feel awkward. Maybe someday, there will be a left-handed Saltist or Tranx but until that day comes, many of us are out of luck. I do appreciate your input though. |

If I could, I would just for Twin Tens although it would feel awkward. Maybe someday, there will be a left-handed Saltist or Tranx but until that day comes, many of us are out of luck. I do appreciate your input though.
Then go with the 401D and Daves reels repair has a power handle for it.

The Saltist reels are tanks, Large Very Heavy Duty Gears and built to take a beating. I f they only had a spool braking system.
The Lexa 300-400 are built OK not as H.Duty as a Saltist but if U take care of them they should hold up. The Saltist has only 1 plastic gear where as the Lexa I think has 3 plastic gears and alot of plastic parts, which are fine but they have limitations, Saltist are all metal inside.
The gears are not as H.Duty as a Salatist so I'm sure the 6 gears on the Lexa will not last long trying to burn DCG 10 and up. You can do it but the brass gears on the small pinion will fold over time and will sound like a coffee grinder. I have the 5 gear Lexa 400 and it has power and good speed, can't burn 10's but it brings them in with very little effort.
I hope that help U to understand a Lexa from a Saltist reel.
The Tranx and the Saltist are in a league of there own. |
