| Been having issues with my jerkbaits front hook geting caught on leader. Have tried just spilt rings instead of snaps with no luck. Any pointers would b appreciated! Thanks! |

Location: Hayward, WI | Are you using solid wire leaders or fluoro or 7 strand? Is the front hook getting caught on the cast or while working the bait?

Location: syracuse indiana | wire is better with jerk baits. it wont flex as much as floro will. really you should use wire if your using gliders or jerks. sometimes when working jerks hard and erratic thats when the hook will get the leader and with the wire it dont flex as much as the floro or 7strand..also in the cast just like using dawgs or anyother bait, make sure that the bait lands in the water straight out so that the leader is outfront of the bait and the hooks will be going away from the front of the bait and should not get hoked on the leader....bill |

I agree with everything said here. I've used fluoro without hanging up too much but if I started to hang up the 1st thing I would try is a solid wire leader.

Location: Yahara River Chain | You aren't picking the slack up fast enough and the bait over running the leader and gets hung up on the hook. Try reeling just a tag quicker after the pull. Now you will not get as wide of a swing, but at least you can still catch a fish as the leader isn't hung up on the front hook. |

I usually cut off the swivel, works much better, more responsive action.
I'd also recommend a longer leader if you can find it. |

| use a solid leader and better understand your lure. i agree with muskie nut, on the jerk, make sure and reel fast enough to catch up to you lure not leaving the slack line. |

| Stealth Leaders has what I found to be the best leader for jerkbaits and walk the dog type topwater baits. They are actually called "Walk the Dog Solid Wire" leaders. I very rarely foul up with these. I don't know if I am allowed to post a link, but here it is.

| This is a lead that has no joints and you can chage you baits out with out cut the line and tieing on a new one it doesn't narrow the swing on your bait.

| I've found that a solid wire leader usually gives a jerk or glide bait a better action that 7Strand or Flourocarbn does. Plus with needle sharp hooks you need to be careful that the hooks don't nick a flourocarbon leader. |

these are some very good leaders but doesn't work will with all gliders and jerkbaits.. they work great with gliders and jerkbaits that have a sideways screw eye like a manta.. if the screw eye is like a hellhound you will get better action with solid wire leader and split ring/snap

| single strand wire, i use a snap on the front and tie directly to the loop on my leader. works great, also just use a split ring on front sometimes depending on the baits |

| I had this same problem with the large manta, what was happening is the leader was sinking below the bait. I put a float (used for crawler harnesses) on the lead near the line and it has solved my problem. Might be worth a try if nothing else works. |
