Posts: 24 | Hi guys, I’m looking to stock up on split rings. I’m going with the Wolverine super rings. Should I go with the zinc rings, or the stainless rings? Thanks

Posts: 594 | I am not a huge fan of the wolverine rings. I use the #5 and #7 bucher rings or #6 stealth tackle rings. Just my opinion. These are stainless.

Should I go with the zinc rings, or the stainless rings? Thanks Any form of tempered steel Zinc plated tempered steel i believe still gives decent corrosion resistance Stainless steel gives up memory and strength for corrosion resistance I would Go with worth personally but i think thats because i find their site easier to use

Posts: 281 Location: US | I like bucher split rings. I've never had one open up. I won't use the wolverine triple rings. They open up way too easy.

Posts: 958 | As others have said stay away from the Wolverines, Some baits I buy have them on and I take them off right away. I get all my Split rings from Stealth Tackle. I use 5 ,6, and 7's depending on size of lure. Jeff Hanson madisonmuskyguide.com

Posts: 258 | RyanJoz - 3/30/2025 3:37 PM Worth. I buy direct from them by the 1,000 per size. I have 2-7 for bass and musky Seems like a very good deal compared to buying packs of 25 or 50. The ones you buy for musky lures are "heavy" or "standart"? https://worthco.com/split-rings-1

Posts: 1145 Location: NorthCentral WI | I like Buchers and Wolverines. Personally, not a fan of the Stealth rings. They are noticeably thinner and will spread when your put them on a bigger hanger like a screw eye.

Posts: 1741 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | I do use the zinc coated heavy Worth rings for Muskies. For bass, I do not use the heavy rings. It has been several years since I’ve had to order, so how they name them may not be accurate. Example they may be called magnum, heavy, 2x, etc.

Posts: 2294 Location: SE, WI. | I agree with others. Not a fan of wolverines split ring. They’re ok if the hook hanger on lures have a large ring. A smaller hook hanger from lure gives the musky leverage to twist off, making hooking system tooooooo Rigid! I remove wolverine’s from any lures that have them! JD

Hmmm. Reading this thread, realize I have Plano box in the boat with dozens of different size split rings and it has been so long since I bought them, have no memory who made them. Well, sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Posts: 1481 Location: Brighton CO. | Well going back in time in the early 90's the thing to do with your Muskie lures was to double split ring your lures for example put a five in a seven, four in a six and some lure makers like the old Natural lures both jerk and crank came doubled up from the factory. then the Bucher's came out with the brownish color then down the road they changed to chrome or steel or whatever. (that was nice you could tell if a lure had Bucher's from the factory) Over the years I've used Bucher's or the Rollie & Helens brand super rings or the Thorne Bothers super rings. I have a few lures that come with Woverines so I kept them on and at one point I even bought a pack of the Wolerines. This spring I put some Wolerines on a lure I bought on E-bay wow those opened easy ? I'll be changing all my Wolerines now. Going back to Bucher's I think it had something about the state of California and the coating on the old split rings and whey they took it off. It was nice to tell if a lure had the good rings from the factory now i change them all to be sure. I have a plastic bag full of old rings I use to add hitch hiker on the back of my lure (something thats added to the lure but has nothing weight baring to the lure. The last three years I have been slowly changing the hooks on all my old Rapala's ,Bomber's , Wally Divers ECT to triple grip hooks.
