Posts: 440 | Only was out about 3 hrs but did manage a 38.5 twitching a walleye Shallow Invader. Fish hit right at the boat on the turn. Kind of spooky when it blew up out of the abyss.

Posts: 231 | Fished Pelican on Friday and Saturday. Our group of 8 caught 6 - 31, 35, 35.5, 36.5, 37.5 and 40". Half caught on suckers. Very few follows on lures. I caught the 37.5 on sucker. First lost fish about 10' from boat. I let the sucker drop and it hits again. I get fish to the boat and half way into net and throws sucker and manages to get out of net. I let the suckers fall straight down and fish hits within seconds. Now I know the hooks are in suckers lips so I just lift fish up next to the boat and my father nets the fish. This fish was either really hungry or really stupid. 2nd time I had fish hit a sucker 3 different times before I finally catch it. My 77 yr dad caught his 2nd legal. He now says he has 2 muskies for 100,000 casts. Maybe he's exaggerating a little bit. We did lose about 5 fish on sucker hits. A few in the low 40" range. We usually do better on sucker hits. We were on like 3 out of about 10 hits. A couple on had marks in back part of sucker. Anybody ever put on a "stinger hook" on these quick strike rigs. I was thinking about putting one on with heavy mono or steel from the middle hook back to the tail area. Was also wondering about how you guys hook your hooks onto sucker. I use a small hook sodders onto treble. But it seems this hooks comes out after a while and repeating putting hooks into the sucker seems to take the life out of the sucker. I was thinking about just putting a black rubber band around the sucker to hold the hooks. I use the rubber band through the nostril quick set set-up. What are some of the set-ups you other guys are using. Thanks.

Posts: 20280 Location: oswego, il | We boated five this weekend, 44, 41, a 34 that looked like it used to bare knuckle box, a pair of 30"ers, lost one and one rip. All fish came in two 30min spurts.

Posts: 425 Location: Elkhart, IN | Well its nothing to brag about compared to what you guys catch, but I caught my second ever muskie a 33". I use a kevlar glove to try to avoid the teeth and it got pretty exciting when he thrashed and stuck the trebles in the glove, now I'm attached to a thrashing fish, YIKES. It all worked out though, but I shudder to think if I hadn't had that glove on the hooks probably would have went thru my hand.

Posts: 425 Location: Elkhart, IN | I forgot to say, it's really cool to watch a fish come up and be zig zagging on the surface following the walk the dog motion:-)

Posts: 32959 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | We moved two on Pelican in the last half hour of light on Friday, and only two Saturday morning. We moved to Crescent, and moved three there. No big fish at all were sighted, despite our plans to boat a dozen or so. We were not dragging meat because I use my trolling motor too much, and will not risk a trolling ticket. All in all Saturday was tough for us, but I enjoyed Rob and Steve's company, and we did work very hard.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Lost the biggest fish I've had on all season Sunday on Pelican. The thing chased the sucker all around the boat It is quite the sight to see a 14 inch sucker masterfully avoiding a 30+ lb muskie. The muskie disappeared for a few seconds leaving the sucker alone near the surface, only to reaapear and t-bone the sucker off the surface of the water. It was more exciting than any topwater strike I ever saw. Had hooks in the fish, or so I thought, for about 15 seconds. Unfortunately, did not keep it pinned long enough to get photos. Had action from a few other fish, all on suckers and all the fish were on the right side of 40 inches with three over 45. Did not manage to boat any but man I love the fall!!

Posts: 294 Location: Suspended | The pontoon boat is put to bed for the winter so I broke out the portable unit. I bailed from work early Friday and got a 36-1/2 and 39-1/2. Then on Sunday landed this 42: I'm still working on perfecting the solo photo.

Posts: 32959 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The fish were moving yesterday in the evening. I got two decent fish at about 5: 30 and 6 PM on a jig. Norm!!! Call me as soon as you get a chance, I would like to get you on a fish I have seen on Pelican a few times this fall. She will tip the scales in the very high 30# to low 40# class, and may just eat a sucker for you. I can't get her to do anything but follow on an artificial.

Posts: 231 | Norm and Steve, I always fish Pelican in October with a group of guys. We usually do real well and usually catch a few over 40 and all CPR'd. One year 2 of our guys caught a 46 and a 50" at the same time in the same boat on suckers. We usually fish the east half of the lake on rocks or in Mud bay. Do you guys fish the west half at all during this time. Usually run out of time after fishing all our hot spots to try new ones. Not looking for exact locations, just areas. Weeds or rocks or depths. Wish I could have fished Sunday. Sounds like they were moving and it was a beautiful day. Thanks.

Posts: 4520 Location: Chippewa Falls Wisconsin | I duck hunted Sat morning...no ducks I had a wedding to go to...that killed my day. The beer was refreshing!. Sunday I was hungry and arrowed and killed a 4pt buck who looked like a gene pool problem. I now have back straps and no more weddings to go to....on the plus side!.

Posts: 1294 Location: Stevens Point, Wi. | Also spent Sat. at Pelican, stopped for a short visit with Mr. Worrall, and had similar results, zip.. Also didn't drag any meat cuz of the windy conditions, but had $12.00 worth of suckers doing the tango in the livewell all day. Did notice quite a few boats dragging meat while running the trolling motor constantly. Luckily for them, the fish cops weren't around. Sunday I fished the Wi. River and was 2/2 on suckers, but no size..all in all a great fall weekend.
